An Introduction to the New Testament: The Abridged Edition (The Anchor Yale Bible Reference Library)

I bought this for a Lay Ministry class and future reference. Most of it was pretty helpful and understandable, although at times it was harder to follow

It's very comprehensive in its analysis and explanations of the texts. Brown did an admirable job providing insights into the daily lives and routines of the gospel writers, Pauline letters and the pastoral letters. I would recommend this book to anyone that has an interest in understanding the New Testament context rather than just by the daily readings and/or Sunday sermons.

Having been Marty Soards’ student for three years I have read quite a bit of Brown. I am glad to see this abridgement and hope to see more like this on Brown’s other big works. Soards’ brilliance and penchant for precision make volumes like this possible.

A very helpful study of the New Testament. I recommend it to anyone who wants to go deeper into this book.

Good introduction for introduction. If you missed what I say, you need this book.

Sorry I didn't order the hard back fuller sized copy; pages don't match up with other classmates' books.

A readable and thorough and scholarly study aid for both those beginning their study of the New Testament and for those who have prior knowledge.

It is what it says that it is, an introdution, and it would be unfair to expect anything else. However, this introduction is more heavily subjective than I think is helpful, and becomes more liberal because of it. With more critical scholarship and less oppinion this would have been a much better resourse.The book would have been better titled An introduction to Browns understanding of the Olt Testement. Having said that Brown does pose some questions that make the reader think, even if he dioesnt help with satisfying answers. An introduction that only putts one on a nodding aquqintance with the Bible. I couldnt recomend it.
