🗄️ Storage & RAID Setup Really happy with the DS1522+ so far. I’ve got two 12TB drives installed using Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) with 1-drive fault tolerance, which is perfect for my needs at the moment. That still leaves me three empty bays to expand into in the future, which is one of the main reasons I went for this model. Plenty of room to grow. 🔊 Noise Levels It runs relatively quietly - no major noise coming from it in normal use. If you’re a very light sleeper or sensitive to low fan/hard drive noise, you might prefer to keep it in another room, but for me it has not been an issue at all. 🖥️ Software Experience Synology’s software (DSM) is excellent. You log in through a web browser, and the interface is smooth, quick and intuitive. Remote access is available through QuickConnect, which lets you securely reach your NAS from outside your home network using a personalised link. I haven’t explored every feature yet, but it’s been seamless so far for backups and file access. 📱 Mobile Apps - A Weak Spot My only real gripe is with the mobile apps, especially Synology Photos. Functionally it works - my photos do back up - but it crashes fairly often for me and I’m not entirely sure why. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s definitely an area I hope Synology improves. 🔁 Reliability & Usage I’ve been running mine continuously for a few months now without a single fault, restart or unexpected issue. I mainly use it to store precious memories and free up space on my phone (which is always full), and it’s done exactly what I needed it to do. 🏁 Overall A strong, expandable and reliable NAS with fantastic software and great long-term potential. If Synology can polish the mobile apps a bit more, it would be close to perfect. Still, I’m a big fan and happy with the investment.

This is my 3rd Synology NAS. DSM capabilities and features is the major reason I keep buying. The DS1522+ has good performance with my 5xWD disks (getting sustained 150-200MB/sec over my 2x1GB bonded links) and mirroring to my other Synology. Snapshots are a standout feature, plus ability to run my security cameras (9MB/sec sustained) whilst serving multimedia via DHCP. Searching for files is also ultra fast, very impressed. Host of packages to select from to install is comprehensive. I upgraded to 32GB memory using NON ECC SODIMMS, but will probably not hit memory limit unless I start running VMs or Containers. I love the Synology as it just works, bit over priced from a performance perspective but DSM is what I am paying premium for.

Ich bin echt froh mir diese NAS gekauft habe. Nachdem meine alte NAS (Theccus, 8 Jahre alt) kaputt geworden ist habe ich lange das Internet durchforstet um einen geeigneten Ersatz zu finden. Was ich gefunden habe war nicht nur ein Ersatz, sondern eine Verbesserung. Absolut einfach zu bedienende Oberfläche mit der das Einrichten einer NAS auch für halbwegs erfahren User machbar ist. (Aber ACHTUNG: etwas IT-Kenntnisse sind bei Einrichten jeder NAS notwendig - egal von welchem Hersteller. Anstcken und verwenden wie bei einer USB-Festplatte geht da nicht) Jenen die ein wenig Erfahrung haben kann ich dieses Gerät nur empfehlen. Zumal jede Menge wertvoller Apps ganz einfach per Mausklick nachinstalliert werden können. Hätte ich sie nicht schon, dann würde ich mir genau diese kaufen.

Synology quoi! Alors ok c'est cher, ok c'est du 1GB (*4), ok c'est pas aussi puissant ni complet que la conncurence actuelle (et beaucoup moins que mon serveur) mais alors cette fiabilité, ce silence, cette offre logicielle, cette communauté! On sait (quasi) tout faire avec et on ne se prend pas la tête. Une solution clé en main élégante et sans prise de tête. Alors oui Synology a un prix et pour le particulier, il y a surement mieux ailleurs mais pour le moment ils sont toujours au top et difficilement battable... (mais le rapport qualité/prix/ équipement est désastreux).
