It's simple, effective, and a great chassis for STEM learners or advanced developer work
Maybe a year before this device came out, I set myself a goal...to create a form factor case for Raspberry Pi hardware that was future-proof. Well, I succeeded at a prototype, but prototypes are clunky and a production system is hard to move in a niche market. It did, however, make use of Pi foundation standard resources, and allowed access to all the ports. Then Elecrow came out with this wonder. I had to say..."where was this a year ago?!" Elecrow offers a couple of different solutions for making a Raspberry Pi minicomputer usable and portable for novice learners, tinkerers, and professional developers alike. This is a simpler solution with far better streamlined and simplified integration. This is a self-contained chassis that, unlike the Pi400, does not require an additional monitor or additional hardware for battery power management. Also, you can put the 8GB Raspberry Pi 4 into this device (the Pi400 tops out at 4GB of RAM). It doesn't need to carry a board of sensors, displays, and buttons so the novice can learn and the professional can test. With a breakout board, you get full external access to the GPIO for hardware control systems. All you need is a ribbon cable, a breadboard breakout, and whatever electronic parts you want to work with. I dinged it 2 stars on the "easy to assemble" part for one reason...it's hard to swap micro SD cards. Elecrow does give you a nice 2-boot drive module which lets you switch between microSD boots. The downside, though, is that if you have more than 2 installations, it's difficult to swap cards. (Elecrow could have saved the hassle by extending the microSD socket to an external port on the housing.) But, I still recommend this for both education and professional developers. For education, it's an inexpensive way to make sure kids have access to a versatile STEM tool with GUI-based software that is compatible with industry-standard stuff that's out today (LibreOffice files will export to MS Office, GIMP runs with similar mathematics to Photoshop). For pro developers and engineers, it gives you a lightweight digital swiss army knife. Some tips: 1: You can run a raspbian build on this laptop without too much hassle. However, you should back up all your irreplaceable assets and make notes on what you can re-install from the software manager, then rebuild an image from scratch. It's tedious but you only need to redo it once. 2: Put the build you're going to use most often in the "B" slot on the microSD adapter, because it's going to be harder to access later. 3: Save the microSD card that comes with it...especially if you want to learn stuff. But it also serves as a "standard" for rebuilding later.

Good starter raspberry pi device
The CrowPi 2 is a neat device. It acts as a sort of laptop computer with a Raspberry Pi 5 at its core. I personally like the extensibility of the device in that it has tons of various sensors hooked up to the RPi's GPIO. It also has some HY 2.0 / Grove connectors allowing additional i2c devices to be attached. The components are hidden under a keyboard which connects through the wireless mouse's receiver. It also has webcam and microphone elements which it shows off in some of the machine learning tutorials. I tried the various lessons and thought they were good quality with lots of detail for getting started. It's definitely the sort of device I would have wanted to have starting out as you can learn each component as you work through the tutorials. They have additional information for Python and Scratch from some booklets as well. The advanced kit came with a good selection of parts as well and also a gaming operating system in addition to the learning one. I tried using my own operating system flashed on the raspberry pi and it had no issues with the keyboard or screen so it seems like a great system to both learn from and then continue beyond that for your own needs. Would recommend the device for both newcomers learning to do electronics programming and advanced users like myself who want a full package RPi setup.

apres quelques essais, jai trouvé une version de pimiga4 qui fonctionne impec et reconnait le son, le wifi, ma manette nvidia, nikel pour se faire une petite machine retro juste le clavier en qwerty, et une solution a trouver pour la jauge batterie

Das Produkt funktioniert sehr gut mit dem RaPi 4B. - Einziges Manko: Auch nach 6 Versuchen innerhalb eines halben Jahres KEINE Rechnung erhalten, weder von Amazon (3x), noch von Zwischenhändler, noch vom Hersteller. Schade, es ist nicht zu verstehen wieso es keine Rechnung gibt (für die Steuer abzusetzen nötig!); Das Argument bzgl. Einfuhrzölle, ja, ist jedoch über Amazon bezahlt, also wer stellt die Rechnung aus? Bisher keine Antwort, trotz persönlicher Zusagen von Amazon erhalten. - Sehr Schade.

I thought I should review this case, as I hoped to clarify a few things for any potential purchasers. I use a raspberry pi 400 every day for most of my day to day computing. It is pretty much ideal for this. But, when traveling, if I want to take it with me, it is a bit less convenient - I need a mouse, my monitor and cables - I need to connect everything up when I want to use it. So, I thought that a Pi laptop would be the ideal solution. I would only need my SD cards and a power cable. The big downside for me is that there is no sd card slot built into the case, that can be easily accessed, as on my pi 400. the cards (1 or 2) can only be installed by removing the bottom of the case. The pi laptop will boot from a usb pen drive but, I have a set of different SD cards installed and ready to use for different purposes. I discovered that using my cards with an external usb card reader solves the problem and leaving both the built-in sd card slots empty. Another problem that I had was that I did not want to use the customised OS card that was provided but, a standard PI OS installation as on my Pi 400. The standard installation doesn't detect the built-in battery which only has a battery life of 3 hours so, knowing the amount of battery life remaining is quite important. I checked on the internet and could not find any solution that worked for me. So, I will not really be able to use the laptop when traveling unless it is plugged into power or just for very short periods. Also, it is necessary to adjust the standard screen resolution of Pi OS to a lower one - 1024X768 works fine. If it had been cheaper, I would have still considered it worth buying but, at the price, which is fairly extortionate when compared to what other pi cases cost, it really wasn't. However, I could not find anything similar and or better, and apart from my issues, this case works well. I think the keyboard is superior to the one on my pi 400 so, it is better for doing a lot of typing. And since the pi 4b has very low power requirements, the 2 together create an extremely low power laptop - in that respect, ideal for running off solar power when off grid. So, I can still make good use of it but, would only recommend it if the price was considerably reduced or a pi4b was included wit it. Update: Unfortunately, I had further problems with this laptop case. I found that it was frequently not booting up. It appeared that the battery was not charging as it would not boot up at all without being plugged into the mains. So, I realised that it simply wasn't reliable enough to be usable and have returned it. It is unfortunate because the idea of having a pi laptop would appeal to many raspberry pi fans, I am sure. But, this case is just too flawed in it's design, for regular use.

I think it's great having a Raspberry Pi laptop, and after carefully assembling the Crowpi L with the dual card, with Raspberry OS on one side, a d RiscOS on the other, it booted into RiscOS no problem. Both the keyboard and mouse did not work at this point. I switched over to Raspberry OS. At first it didn't boot from the dual card interface, so I removed it and booted the SD card directly on the Pi, and while the wireless mouse worked, I had to use an external keyboard as the CrowPi's keyboard appears to be dead. I do get a bunch of USB error messages on start up. After a while, the display stopped outputting, and that's where I felt sad, as at this point, I knew I'd be recovering my Pi4 and boxing the Crowpi L back up for a return. A real shame, but it did not live up to expectations.
