Q: will it control boss?

Not that I could make out. When I pointed at my wife neither the pause nor mute buttons would work! Also would not work on the kids for volume control. ;-)

Q: Is this capable of sending signals through walls ?

The Harmony 650 uses infrared signals (or infrared light). Infrared signals can not go through walls.

The original configuration was 5 devices. An update raised it to 8 devices. I just bought mine from Radio Shack on 6/18/14, and it allowed 8 devices out of the box. I actually programmed 7 of those without any issue (did not have 8 devices).

Q: How long do the batteries last under normal use?

Not sure why there are so many reports about quick battery use - I use Duracell or even Sams Club members mark batteries. I use the remote every day and may change the batteries 1x a year, 2x at most. I am not even sure since it has never been an issue for me. I always have a supply of double AA batteries available. I do not like the rechargeable batteries as they seem to drain a lot quicker anytime I've used them in any device - I love this remote, it has been dependable. When I bought it, it was set up for five devices. Logitech has updated the software and now it is capable of 8 devices - this is an amazing remote and is at a great price. I use it for my Samsung Smart TV, Panasonic Blu Ray Player, Sony Amp, and my Roku - works seamlessly, easy to program - had it for four years at least and plan on keeping it!
