***Update again. Same recurring problem with the new unit. This works but not in the long term. I am going to try another brand. You get what you pay for. I'll spend more now and maybe have better luck. **Update to previously negative review. This company stands behind their product. Seller Customer service was very helpful and responsive. We got the unit working again. It is important to use the power supply that came with the unit and not another power supply, which turned out to be one of the problems I was having. The power supply of the original purchase was defective and this company sent a new unit even though out of the return window. I am very happy again with the quality of sound this unit produces. I highly recommend. Very easy to install and sound quality was excellent after I hooked smart tv up to stereo receiver. I have been using it for approximately 27 days, on a daily basis. Turned it on this AM and it worked just fine for about 1 hour and then sound level dropped so low I could barely hear anything. Turned up volume to max on receiver and the sound was very fuzzy and full of static. Basically not tolerable. Even though I had no problems for almost a month, and the setup had not been touched since the original install, I tried to tinker with the volume and audio controls on the TV. Nothing I did corrected the problem. Finally I turned everything off for 20 minutes and re-started. At that point the excellent sound quality I had before returned. Everything crystal clear and sharp again. This should not happen. I have started a return. I need something that works without constant tinkering for much longer than the time I got with this device. I don't recommend.

By way of introduction, I am an audio engineer and a production professional, currently working in the NYC area. My particular application for the ROOFUL Optical to Coaxial Bi-Directional Converter/Adapter is as follows: Within my career as a Touring Production Manager, and Live Sound Engineer, I have amassed a large library of live recordings on DAT , (Digital Audio Tape), and it is my desire to transfer my library onto hard drive, before the DAT storage medium becomes completely degraded and unusable, without utilizing any analogue steps within the transfer process. The final destination for the media is into the Pro Tools Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). I am utilizing a Sony DTC-ZE 700, (DAT), for tape transport, into a Tascam DA-30 MKII, (DAT), for digital input into my UAD Apollo 16 audio interface, via AES/EBU 3 pin XLR balanced input. This is where your product comes into play, as the Sony DTC-ZE 700 only provides optical digital output, and the Tascam DA-30 MKII only provides for digital input via coaxial or 3 pin XLR AES/EBU digital input. So, as an optical to coaxial converter, the ROOFUL Optical to Coaxial Bi-Directional Converter/Adapter has provided me with an elegant, and cost effective digital interface solution between the Sony DTC-ZE 700, and Tascam DA-30 MKII DAT machines I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone seeking a digital conversion solution where a coaxial to optical, or an optical to coaxial solution is needed. Needed the digital coaxial to optical converter to make the Roku Streambar, or most any new sound bars, work with a tv that had no optical out port. Easy to hook up the separately purchased coax and optical cable plus supplied power source and get the speaker working. This unit is small but the sound seems great coming from the conversion to the speaker with sound bar and side speakers too.The switch that indicates the bi-diraction of the signal was already set to where we needed it, so it couldn't have been simpler. I deducted a star for the time it took in shipping but would add a half star back in if I could, because that was not a big deal to me, just inconvenient. I'd buy another if I ever needed one but most newer tvs come with the right ports these days. We just needed better sound when our old receiver and speakers no longer worked for us on a tv only a few years old that just needed that one thing.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Had to adapt an old TV coax audio output to a new sound bar with only optical. This little guy was plug and play to solve this problem. As noted elsewhere in the comments, driving this adapter's power from the sound bar USB works well to avoid a permanent power on condition. Value for money: Seems like good value for the solution.

Did exactly what I needed it to do. My LG tv had an optical sound output, but my redmi soundbar only had a coaxial spdif input. This converter did some magic in between the 2 devices and problem solved!

Superb convert on coaxial to optical. with 5.1 Dolby. worth product. my tv is digital output only on coaxial. but my home theatre available only optical input. i buying this product. perfect convert and performance without delay. thanks to amazon and seller.

Worked like charm on my 55" Mi TV 4X Pro. No loss of audio quality. Might reduce you max volumes a bit, but if your speakers are great, you won't feel a thing. Just go for it.
