A must have for aqua tru products.

This product is only worth it for the descaling "filters", which really aren't filters, rather blank cartridges used to stand in for filters during the descaling process. Once you have these, then just use basic citric acid because that's all you're getting in the official packets, and bulk citric acid is far cheaper. Just use 1 tbl citric acid per gallon of (warm) water, and make sure it's fully dissolved before running through the system. I have particularly hard water where I live (around 12-13 gpg), which is harsh on RO systems (particularly the RO bladder). I also live in a situation where I cannot install a water softener. To mitigate this, I descale once I start noticing scale build-up on the input tank, which for me is about every other week (probably excessive, but I use my AquaTru a LOT!). I mix 2 tbl food grade citric acid with 2 gallons of warm water and dissolve. I then fill the input tank with a gallon of water and let it sit for 20-30 mins, then clean. I then put the remaining gallon of solution in the input tank and run the system until half the tank is empty (which will happen very fast with the cartridges installed since they are really just empty cartridges), and then turn the AquaTru off. This allows the descaling solution to do its work on the entire system. I let it sit for 30-60 mins, and then run two gallons of normal water through the system to flush out any citric acid solution. After that I reinstall the normal filters and run an additional gallon through the system and all is good. If you want to reduce wastage, then you can use some of this water for house cleaning (I use it for mop water). Every second time I do this, I run a diluted bleach solution through the system with the cartridges installed (1 half tsp bleach per gallon of water). RO systems aren't great for things like bacteria. I do this mainly because it's very difficult to fully drain the water out of the cartridges and I don't want bacteria build up over time, and it will also ensure no bacteria build up in the system (DO NOT run either the citric acid or bleach solutions through the actual filters!). I put the bleach solution in the input tank, run it halfway through, shut off the system, and let it sit for about 20 mins, then I run at least two more gallons through the system before reinstalling the filters. The cartridges that come with this descaling kit are nice for cleaning/sanitizing the system, but you don't need to buy them every time you want to descale. I just make sure to sanitize them (with the bleach process described above) from time to time because water stays trapped/stagnant for long periods of time between uses as it's nearly impossible to get all of the water out. I'm dropping a star due to price and AquaTru expecting you to re-buy this whole thing every time you want to descale.

I didn’t realize how slow my tank was filtering until after I did this treatment. I’ve had the tank about 2.5 years and this is the first time I descaled. I’ll probably start using this yearly. The price is good for what you get. The filter caps are reusable and you get 6 packets of descaling powder who can equates to 3 separate treatments. Instructions are easy to follow also.

It got to Neepawa faster than if I ordered through aqua true directly ! Reverse Osmosis machine needed a cleaning and as usual this did the trick . Machine up and running perfectly

The description said it was supposed to come with 6 descaling packets but there was only 1 in the package. The instructions say you need 2 packets to do the descaling so I can't do anything with this.

I like this product as it comes with refills to clean the next month or whenever you need to clear your AquaTru
