I really liked this shampoo! It does lighten, but very gently and it gives my hair a slight bit of body. I have fine light brown hair and this gives me natural-looking highlights of blond. It looks like have been in the sun. I have used it for several years now with no adverse effects.

By blonde hair got darker as I got older, so I tried this 10 years ago, now, I would never consider using anything else. It brings out nice lighter highlights, it does not color your hair, but the best part is, what a great shampoo it is. It leaves my hair thick, soft and silky. My brush used to get full of hair, now, I only clean it once a year. My hair looks better now than it did 20 years ago. This is not just for blondes, its for anyone who wants great looking hair.

I have dark blonde hair that, when lightened brings out red- which is what I'm going for. It's effective and I'm stoked that I can order it in this size. I mix it with a bit of apple cider vinegar to help with dandruff. Wish John Frieda would incorporate biodegradable refills but, alas- that's the drawback
