Perfect scanner for home use
Great little scanner, especially when paired with an external antenna to help out the supplied ariel. It's extremely easy to set up, has a relatively small desktop footprint, comes preprogrammed with hundreds of commonly used PD/FD and air traffic channels, and also receives short wave, national and local weather and FM stations. Excellent deal!

Great, basic analog scanner
My old Radio Shack scanner finally gave up the ghost, so I was looking for a simple, basic replacement. This unit does not disappoint. First, I am in a rural area, so all scanner frequencies here are analog. Also, I have software (PSREdit) which has a database of all the frequencies I use... it hooked up perfectly with this scanner and uploaded the files without a problem. The cable I had from my Radio Shack unit worked fine! Also, I have a subscription from RadioFrequencies.com, which downloads its database to the PSREdit program, so there was no manual programming I needed to do. There are 10 banks, with 30 channels each, so plenty of room for the 50 or so frequencies that I monitor. The sound is crisp and clear. There are pre-programmed channels for EMS/Police/Fire, but these were not really useful to me in my area. I would highly recommend you check RadioFrequencies.com for your area and get the local frequencies you need there, and program them in. Finally, there is one minor issue, but not critical: My old Radio Shack scanner showed the description of the channel being received... this scanner does not. I sort of miss that; but since I setup banks for EMS, Fire, Police, etc., I can tell by which bank is lit where the call is originating. (Also, all calls always announce who they are at the onset of the message). All in all, a solid unit for the price!

Good scanner with a few small draw backs
The Whistler WS1025 is a solid, easy-to-use scanner. Programming the channels was straightforward once I got the hang of it, and the backlit LCD display makes it easy to read, even in low light. The audio is clear, and it picks up local police, fire, and weather channels well. That said, it does take a little time to learn how to navigate all the features if you’re new to scanners, and the included manual could be a bit clearer. Also, being analog-only, it won’t pick up digital systems used in some areas. Overall, it’s a reliable unit for the price—great for listening to local activity and weather alerts, just keep in mind its limitations.

Terrific product
Produced the Whistler desktop scanner W S10 25 I live in a hard and difficult area.To receive transmissions from police Fire on a low band and purchasing this scanner. I found it to be excellent. Quality is good. I just pick up single strength very good. We'll recommend it for the money. I have in the past. Use different brands of scanners. And I found that Whistler is superb to all other brands will recommend miss scanner. If you listen to the lower frequencies, you will Find a very pleasant label to use very easy to understand and get a lot of enjoyment and pleasure out of a radio that produces and performs excellent. I must invite and I say to Whistler whistler corporation. Congratulations. You are now considered in my book's number one

Not worth a dollar...
Need a separately purchased cable to program, and descriptions are poor at best. Owners manual is useless... Junk! There are at least 20 other scanners on the market that are hand held and better. Total hype, this is an over advertised piece of garbage! Oh if you want to 'PC Program' it, be prepared to buy a cable you can't easily find on Amazon and pay through the nose to get it from Radio Shack. Totally useless for the price - buy the Uniden Bearcat Handheld - at least they give you the cable and the software for FREE! This is a total piece of crap even for '80's technology. What a rip off.

Easy Set up
We ordered the Whister WS1025 Desktop analog scanner for our son for Christmas. A few days after I placed the order my husband accidently dropped and broke our 25 year old Radio Shack scanner. I ordered another of this scanner for us. Both came within days of each other. Very quickly. My husband set ours up quickly and we love the sound. This scanner holds frequencies our old scanner would not. My husband set up our son's scanner and he put it back in the box and wrapped it. I asked him a few days later if it would hold the frequencies if it is unplugged as our old scanner would not if it was unplugged for more than a few minutes. He said he didn't know but I guess we will find out. A week or so later it was Christmas and that same night my son plugged in his scanner when he got home and sure enough the frequencies were still there and it worked beautifully. We both love our new scanner and my son and his wife love the one we gave him. I read in the reviews that some folks thought it was hard to program. My husband said it was very easy to program and it has been on 24/7 since we got it about a month ago and it is working great. Would highly recommend this product.

Will NOT pick up 800 megahertz broadcasts
A call to Customer Support at Whistler informed me, as the description did not, that if the Police and Fire and Emergency services in your area broadcast in the 800 megahertz range this scanner WILL NOT receive their signals. The price is good, the weather came in well but this scanner may not be for you if you want to hear Police and Fire and the agencies bundle their broadcast in the 800 megahertz range as does Seattle.

Pleased with how well it works for me. Only thing I would change is the light on the display. It is quite bright, I wish it could be dimmed down, if only to help it last longer.

We live in the country and for some reason could not get it to pick up anything but the weather . Originally bought it for an elderly relative thought they would not know how to operate. Eventually returned it.
