Q: Life expectancy of pads? Cleanable?

Life expectancy depends on a number of factors. Soft shell/broken eggs, chicken poop, mites all will shorten the life span. You should still be able to get 6 months or better out of them. Cleanable depends on how you define cleanable. Most of the time, if one gets nasty you can simply remove a layer or two of fibers and they are are good as new until they start getting a bit too thin or too nasty. Infestation of mites, ants or other bugs can be treated, if caught early, with a light dusting of food grade diatomaceous earth, which will help to prolong the life of the pads. I tried the plastic nest box pads for longer life and easy cleaning, but my hens did not like them and refused to use them. They love these pads, new or old...both hens and pads.

Q: How thick is each pad?

They look to be 3/4" to 1" each, but are really compacted. Once you or the hens fluff them a little, they are really thick and fluffy. They last longer than the others I tried before, and are worth every penny. When they wear out, I just throw them in the compost bin and use them to fill new raised garden beds.

Q: Do you have to fluff up the nesting pad prior to use or will they do it by themselves?

I pull the strands apart and fluff them to make a pocket/bowl for the eggs. I use 2 to 3 pads for each nest. They will flatten it some. They will move the eggs out of the nest otherwise.

Q: Can these be washed / reused? Or just they be replaced every time?

Neither washable or reusable. They were terrible to use. You would have to replace them after a few days. I went back to just using pine shavings that work so much better.
