The illustrations are beautiful and have a cozy, vintage, homey feel to them. There are many fun details to see on each page! My kids, ages ranging from 3 to 10, loved this book and have asked for it again and again! I would not say that this story reinforces picky eating habits. Rather, I think it encourages thoughtfulness about how difficult it can be when children are overly picky where food is concerned. Even my 3 year old commented on how the poor mommy was having a hard time with all of her silly eaters. I’m proud to have this lovely hardback in our book collection. Review: One of the best kids books ever - I loved this book as a kid, and recently got it for my nephew after not having read it for 25+ years. Let me tell you, it more than holds up. The story is charming; the illustrations are intricate and delightful; the cadence of the narrative poem is perfect. Since the rhythm is so good, it works for littles, but definitely works for older kids, so fun to read as a family.

Super fun and easy to read aloud!
p next in the birthday book reviews is The Seven Silly Eaters by Mary Ann Hoberman. Now, this book is not new (published in 1997, to be exact), but it was new to us when our youngest got it as a gift, and it has been on constant repeat since September 26th! Hoberman has contributed many wonderful books to children’s literature (A House is a House for Me, All Kinds of Families, Strawberry Hill, the You Read to Me, I’ll Read to You series, among others!), and Marla Frazee has illustrated some of our favorites (All the World, A Couple of Boys Have the Best Week Ever, Everywhere Babies…), so I’m not sure how I missed this one before! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, how many of you moms out there have picky eaters? Hopefully nothing like the Peters kids in this book, but maybe like me, your kids have LOVED something one day (Siggi’s yogurt tubes…), and then the moment you stock up at Costco, they won’t touch it any more. Anyone? Anyway, you moms can probably relate to Mrs. Peters in more ways than one. And if you’re not a mom, you can read this and appreciate (or relate to) the hilarity in the pictures, as well as the wonderfully flowing verse. This is honestly a book that we don’t mind reading on repeat in our house, because it’s fun to read and funnier to look at! What adult out there doesn’t want to just throw a fit one day and then be able to sit back and play your cello while your children cook the next? (Swipe right for photos). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Extra bonus— this book ends with a birthday, so makes a great themed birthday present if you’re into that like I am! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Publishers recommend for ages 4-8, but our 3-year-old adores it, and I’m guessing older audiences would, too! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you liked this, be sure to check out: **most books by Chris Van Dusen **Pandas Love Pickles by Liz Lynch **Escargot by Dashka Slater **I Really Like Slop by Mo Willems

Family Favorite
I love this book. The story has a “surprise” in it for kids that they love. It’s rhyming (like Dr Suess) and the illustrations are incredible.

One of Our Favorite Books
We ADORE this book! Every kid has that SOMETHING that drives us nuts when it comes to their eating habits. My 7 year old can’t have any “hard parts” in his food. My 2 year old has to have his milk warmed up for 30 seconds, no more no less. This book, with its beautiful, whimsical and magical illustrations, introduces us to a family with not one or two or three but SEVEN children who all have a food quirk. In the beginning with the first couple kiddos, it’s endearing and mom doesn’t mind making each of them their special request on the regular. But as the family grows and each new child demands their food to be made just so, mom starts to get more and more frazzled and the rose colored glasses disappear. This is a fun, sweet, loveable story that will have everyone in the family laughing. A keeper.

Great story, entertaining.
I ordered one book for my friends granddaughter and one for my friends grandson. I read this story book to my son and daughter when they were younger, they loved the story.

This has become one of my most adored books!
What a beautiful, wonderful book. I will be giving this to more children as gifts. I think it would be appropriate for ages three and up. I think even older kids up to 10 would love it. But these ages are just a suggestion. I think people of any age will love it. I’m getting one just for myself!

My children love this book, and adults do not get bored either as the language and rhymes are quite interesting. Fun read, I would say age 2,5-3,5.
