An Atlas of the Peninsular War

Possibly better than Lipscombes's majestic Peninsular War Atlas; I cannot dispense with either book. Martin Brown's cartography is detailed, beautifully colored, and gives fully detailed troop movements, positioning, roads, harbor landmarks, and essential naval movement. There are 100 pages of full color maps, and Ian Robertson's narrative of the course of each battle complements the rich map work perfectly. It's easy to follow the course of each battle because maps and narrative mesh so well. And, if it's important to you, (it is too me) the pages have a creamy texture, a first-class feel as well as look. If you love military cartography and the Napoleonic Wars, you'll want this book, even if you already own the Lipscombe atlas.

I teach Military English to graduate officers. This book sits prominently on my resource table as a reference guide to the Peninsular War. Beautiful maps, articulately written, and accurate information. Very reasonably priced.

I bought a Victorian edition Sir William Napier's six volume History of the Peninsula War and couldn't understand what was going on even with a Michelin touring map. This Atlas solved the problem with its clear concise maps and explanations of weapons, tactics etc.

a very good little book, great maps, very clear, specific detail. The text is also succinct but with enough detail to give it the feel of a well researched book, which it certainly is. well worth the cash.

Although a perfectly good summary of the Peninsular War in its own right, the beautifully clear maps make a great accompaniment to a detailed history of the conflict, and one can still hold a glass of wine as well.

Very good atlas of the scenes of the actions. Actually used this to follow the routes on a guided tour of the battlefields. Recommended

I have a number of Peninsular war books, but these generally suffer from unclear and inconsisent maps. The maps in Mr Robinson's book are clear and a pleasure to leaf through.
