For what the price of these beans are, it's pretty amazing how they taste. They definitely are up to par with other specialty grade beans. The roast is slightly dark, but not overpowering or bitter.I think the bad reviews either got a bad batch/bag, or didn't dial in their coffee properly.For espresso on this one, I had to go to a coarser grind than some other beans I have -- too fine and you will easily overextract. It took me a few brews to dial in correctly, a few clicks on my grinder made it easy to underextract. On my Breville Smart Grinder Pro, the sweet spot was 14. 15 and 16 gave me a wildly different brew time, and 12 would go over a minute on extraction. Dosage was the same on all, 19 grams.The espresso itself is good, full bodied, bold, chocolatey, slightly sweet. You just have to set it up correctly, as with other coffee.

Over the years, I've migrated from medium to dark roast coffee, when I read this description I envisioned a deep dark roast coffee as mentioned in many of the raving reviews.For your reference: I prepare my coffee via the pour over method, grind it to #5, 7g scoop per 4oz cup and drink it black.Now as I sit here sipping a cup and writing a review I'd say it is lighter than what I usually buy, it has nice flavor and slightly acidic but not bad. My recent favorite dark roast: Organic Papua New Guinea Whole Bean CoffeeThe package was not vacuum sealed which I found strange especially since it has a pressure valve. I could not find the roasted date? The beans smelled fresh, 8/10, I've smelled better fresher coffee.So at the end of the day, if your looking for DARK roast, this is probably not for you, the lack of a full vacuum seal makes me wonder about freshness, this coffee tastes better than good, if I were poured a cup at a friends house I'd drink it, but for me, I won't buy It again, more because I prefer darker coffee than any quality issues.

This is the kind of coffee I like in the morning. Full body, hints of chocolate and nut flavor, but nice and smooth. Although I drink it black, this coffee can easily stand up to cream and sugar as well. Worked well brewed with the Aeropress. This is the first Ecuadorian coffee that I have tried and was quite impressed. Definitely worth a try.

Great Tasting Coffee From Bean To Cup. My wife bought me a bag of Café de Loja AWARD-WINNING Specialty Coffee Beans, City Roast, to use in our Auto Brewer. We enjoy our coffee black. From aroma coming out of coffee bag, excitement🤗. Aroma during brewing, wafting throughout the house with nice, even creme, anticipation. First Sip, Mmmmm,😋should have ordered 2 Bags🤔. Most Excellent Coffee for anytime of the day. Rich Full Flavor, no bitter aftertaste, well rounded. Kudos to the Roaster. You make the beans give their best. Thank You Very Much

I like the Café de Loja, I'm drinking a cup as I write this. I've been trying the most highly rated coffees on Amazon and Café de Loja sounded like something special. I am enjoying it, but not so much so that I'll consider Café de Loja to be my regular brew. Again, I don't want to disparage anyone from trying it. I'm not sad that I made the purchase. It is a good cup of coffee and I'll drink every cup, but it's not the holy grail of beans. I'll keep looking.

I like to try different coffees from around the world. This is one that I choose to reorder. I love the complex flavor when I run it through my French press.

I drink medium roast coffee, but there aren't a lot of choices in my local stores, so thought I would ty here. I really liked the idea of a medium-dark roast and was reallylooking forward to this arriving. So much so, that I even bought a new grinder for the occasion. Wow. What a disappointment. Literally the WORST cup of coffee II hve ever had! Worse than convenience store coffee, actually! Zero oils, no aroma and absolutely nooooooo flavor. I've had tea with more flavor. And to add insult to injury, it was roasted THREE MONTHS AGO, AND THE EXPIRATION DATE IS MORE THAN A YEAR FROM NOW!!!!!! This is an absolute INSULT! DO NOT BUY!!!!
