Revolutionary Notebook
This notebook is literally everything I have ever wanted in writing. Pros: I am a person, who, before this notebook, already used PILOT Frixion Ball-pens for years, and, after using them for a few days, noticed the ink could be erased with heat, and always wondered how to apply this to a revolutionary product... In short, Rocketbook beat me to it, with a design no one else can beat: a fantastic notebook with no-snag wiring, plastic (untearable) front-and-back covers, and some sort of special paper that just, for some reason, feels different. On top of the design, the "smart-notebook" features are GENIUS! I LOVE uploading the pages! It takes a bit to get used to at first, but after a few tries, uploading pages is a breeze with the Rocketbook app. My favorite feature overall, however, is the ability to microwave your notebook, and have it erase all the pages! This is SUPER cool! Cons: There is one VERY significant problem: When people use pens, they typically press down on the paper when writing, which means that, even if the ink is erased, there are still visible strokes on the paper. However, the Rocketbook app NEVER picks up these strokes, so the uploaded pages are always perfect. Still, the strokes accumulate over time, and that means that the page begins to have wear-and-tear on it. Additionally, the covers of the notebook are VERY prone to getting scratched, and even just using it as a surface to write on top of leaves very noticeable marks, which cause me to feel slightly uneasy, and the notebook doesn't look new even after about 5 days. Additionally, the ink itself, when thick lines are made with the pen, when erased leaves very noticeable streaks, that, still, however, are not picked up by the Rocketbook scanner app. In the end, this notebook cannot be reused more than a couple dozen times, so expect to buy one each year (that is, if you write 5 pages a day like I do, otherwise, don't worry about having to buy more than one). Conclusion: Even though there are some flaws, the Rocketbook Wave Smart Notebook is a VERY useful notebook, and its features are definitely worth the money. The notebook itself will last the average notetaker or writer a couple of years, and the uploading features are priceless. Attached is the first scan I did, as you can see, the capturing abilities are great. Even though my son's handwriting isn't the best, the scanner captures every beautiful detail of it. I look forward to more from Rocket Innovations, Inc.!

Buy this now if you've ever wanted to go paperless and couldn't figure out how... Rocketbook rocks!
So, I've tried to go paperless for over a decade. Really tried. I started taking notes on a laptop, but they weren't good notes, and I knew that. So, I went back to paper notes. There's something about hand writing notes that gives you perfect notes, that gets the ideas into your head, that has a flow to it. I just couldn't keep typing notes. But, how do you get them digitized? At the end of the day or end of the week I'd have piles of paper with notes and I couldn't get the important information out of them. I thought about buying an expensive iPad pro so I could use the pencil with it. But it just doesn't feel right. After all, there's nothing like a fresh, new notebook just waiting for notes. Then, along came Rocketbook. And there was a solution to my problem. The paper became temporary and reusable... no more stacks of paper... just one notebook. I can instantly digitize the notebook with an app on my phone. I can instantly erase an entire notebook of notes in the microwave. I have found the answer to a decade-long search for the perfect handwritten note that can be digitized. I can take a day's worth of notes in this notebook, digitize them in seconds, and start tomorrow with a fresh notebook. Rocketbook is the nirvana of notebooks. I can intermix my notes within the notebook, and separate them easily when I digitize them. I take technical notes for work. I take notes while I'm on a phone call for work. I write my To Do list. I send love notes to my wife. I design my maker projects. I write a grocery list. All with the same Rocketbook. All digitized to my mobile device and emailed or stored in the right place instantly. You should too! Buy one. Now. You won't regret it!

The magic is in the pen, not the paper. BUT this notebook is still great!
I have had this notebook for a few weeks and getting ready to buy a 2nd one. I have been using Pilot Frixion Clicker pens and Frixion Highlighters for a long time. Kids like the Frixion markers for coloring something, erasing, and then re-coloring. With that being said, let me give you my impression of both Frixion line of pens and this notebook. FIRST: Pilot Frixtion line of pens, highlighters, magic markers etc is where the REAL magic lies - not in the paper. You can use your Frixion pen/highlighter/magic markers to write on any type of paper (index cards, newspaper, printer paper, notebook paper, coloring books, etc) and erase the ink by either using the special Frixion Erasers and erasing as if using a pencil eraser (regular erasers will not work, must be a Frixion eraser) OR by heating the paper for a few seconds either with a hairdryer (thats what my kids use) or over a lightbulb, candle flame (be careful) or any other heat source. The ink will disappear (although still somewhat barely readable). To bring the ink back just put the paper in the freezer for a few minutes and magically what you erased is now back and fully readable as if never erased. Kids love doing "secret messages" this way, and it keeps them entertained. Theres a science lesson in there somewhere I'm sure if you wanted to make it a teachable lesson for younger kids. My point being, the frixion line of pens and markers and highlighters all do this without any special notebook or paper required. So if your on a tight budget, order a frixion pen, then if you find you like it using as described above as a test trial, then order this notebook if needed. Whew, are you still with me? Seriously I didn't mean for this to be so long lol :) SECOND: Although I have been using Frixion pens and highlighters for years to make notes, erase, bring back from beyond etc in just a regular spiral notebook and even index cards as flash cards, I love this rocketbook wave notebook. Again, I can get the same functionality from any generic spiral notebook using the correct pens, but I love that the rocketbook adds the functionality of the direct scan to specific folders you set up. I do use Evernote to scan/store a lot of my notes before erasing them, but using this notebook eliminates a few steps in the process making it quicker. I also like the microwave ability to erase several pages all at once. My current way (applying a heat source or eraser) I can only do 1 page at a time so takes longer (a microwave safe notebook is much faster). So scanning and sharing to correct folder is now 1 step, as well as erasing all notes at 1 time is 1 step. Although the product description does not mention it DO REMEMBER any of your 'erased' notes can be brought back to life in full view simply by placing them in a freezer for a few minutes. Say you accidentally erase something you didn't want erased (me: leaving a notebook in car on a hot summer afternoon erased my precious notes) - place it in freezer to restore it. So (point to ponder) just like the hard drive of your phone and computer - just because you erased something, doesn't mean its really gone is all Im saying, theres always traces. Example, never use a Frixion pen to write down sensitive information (passwords, account info, etc). Because after you erase them, all someone has to do is place in freezer to bring the information back.

Durable and Long-Lasting
I purchased this back at the end of 2018 and it still works relatively well! I am very pleased with this purchase. I absolutely LOVE Rocketbook as a company and their products have not yet disappointed me. To give context: I am a college student and I use my notebooks for all of my classes, plus extracurricular activities. The left-behind writing is true, but I've found that this doesn't transfer to the scanned page (I have both images attached). I am thinking this is because the heat only takes out the pigment of the ink (this may be wrong, but I have seen this same thing with the Frixion pens on regular paper). I think if you're looking for something that feels like writing writing on regular paper but you value having pages easily scanned to your Google Drive, and you aren't distracted by the writing left behind, then this should work really well for you, too! A few notes/pieces of advice: 1) I was gifted a second one in the middle of 2019, which has helped spread the use across two notebooks. I think this has helped with the longevity of both books. The one pictured is my 2018 book. I realize this means that you would be spending ~$52 on the notebooks, but compared to purchasing a tablet (with a surface that does not feel like paper), an Apple pen, or (if waste is not a concern) buying a multipage scanner all costs much more than this. 2) I would not suggest using Frixion highlighters, or using Frixion pens that are the colors pink or red in these journals. The highlighters and the pink does not pick up as well, and red seems to stain the notebook more than any other color does (again, I only notice it as I am writing, but not in my scans). 3) There is an alternative to this called the Rocketbook Core. They are not microwaveable pages, but instead use water and a towel. These do NOT leave behind any markings, and seem to pick up a little more color than the Wave does. I have one of these and while I agree that it works well, it still has that "slippery" feeling that I don't like when writing. It doesn't feel like paper. Also, the cleaning takes a few minutes because you have to wipe each and every page, and wait for the page to dry before moving onto the next one. I think if you're someone who doesn't mind the feel of the writing surface, and you want something with these perks (plus more color readability), this type may be a better fit for you. 4) I see a few reviews talking about their notebooks catching on fire. I do not know what these people are doing, but I can imagine the frustration that comes with that happening. This is what I do each time I put my book in the microwave: First, I get a mug filled halfway with room temperature water. Then I put the book in the microwave (with the mug on top, directly in the center of the circle on the cover) for 1 min and I CONTINUALLY watch. AS SOON AS the arrow on the cover is gone is when I take it out and flip the book (yes, it is hot). I thumb through the pages (mainly because I still think its so cool to see the writing gone... I am unsure if this actually does anything). Finally I put it back in, continually watch, and remove as soon as the arrow is gone on the second page. This has worked for me every single time. Hopefully this helps others too! Either way, I think this is a great idea and I really like that it hits the mark for me in most ways.

Highly recommend
I love this thing. I've told so many people about it. To be fair, I've not used the "erase" feature. But to just know that it's there is fun. I think I'll buy more sizes or different versions.

Rocketbook is somewhat ok, but I think there are more convenient and more effective ways to do the same thing.
[See December 15th update about an improved notebook at the end of this review.] I've had the Rocketbook Wave for about a week. My initial impression is that it's ok, but not yet great. I like the idea that I can write in a notebook (or with paper available from rocketbook's website). But I can write on many notebooks, so there is no game changer here. I like the idea that I can scan the pages I wrote and then, relatively quickly, send those pages to a variety of cloud services or email accounts, using the Rocketbook app. But I can do that with other apps - like Scannable, scansnap, or scanner pro (among other apps). With the other apps, I can scan multiple pages into the same pdf or other file. I have not figured out how to do that with rocketbook, so with that app, i get separate pdf pages. I'm still looking for a way to fix that. I'm not crazy about the microwave feature for two reasons. The first reason is rocket books requires the microwave to have a rotating turntable. I have that, but my microwave is too small, so the book cannot rotate. I did not know about that constraint until I read the small print. The second reason is the notebook apparently lasts for about 5 erasures. Clearly not the last note book one will buy. So, after one week, I find myself wondering what the big deal is. I may be missing something. It seems to me buying a notebook you like, taking pictures of the pages you've written on with one of several functional scanner apps, and then sending them to your favorite cloud service does the same thing rocketbook does. But with less hassle. I'll keep using the rocketbook and the app for awhile longer, and revise this review if appropriate. December 15, 2016 update: Rocketbook is coming out with another version of their notebook. It's called the Everlast Notebook. It is due sometime in April 2017. The original notebook could be used about 5 times. The Everlast (according to the manufacturer) can be used about 1000 times. The original notebook was erased in a microwave oven. According to the manufacturer, "The Rocketbook Everlast can be reused by wiping the page clean with a moist towel." Search for "The Everlast Notebook" on kickstarter for details.

Although this isn't the "wipe clean" version, it was a great price to test RocketBook!
I wish the RocketBook was a thing last time I was in school!! Although I purchased the wrong version (the one you can't wipe with a cloth), it's still really nice and was a reasonable price ($19.99) to see if I am compatible with this method. I get you can scan any regular notebook with an OCR app (handwriting to text translation), but what makes these notebooks so neat are the destination icons at the bottom of the page. You can assign each icon to a cloud service (onedrive, onenote, googledrive, evernote) or email. So you just draw a line through which destination(s) you would like the notes to be sent. This has been such a neat tool for writing my essays. I always prefer to draft or take notes by hand, I seem to retain and learn the information better that way. This doesn't seem like a total waste of time now when I require a final text document now that all of that can easily be transcribed into text. And since the pages are being digitized and are reusable, I don't require 10 different notebooks for multiple subjects or projects. I certainly will be purchasing the Everlast version of these notebooks (the wipe-clean versions), possibly the Fusion so I can have calendar and planner pages. I have NOT attempted to place this book in the microwave yet, as that makes me a little nervous, but will once I purchase the Everlast. One flaw is that not all colors were picked up on their app, but those were the lighter colors like cream and yellow, so that was to be expected.

7 months in: amazing
Totally worth it. The Rocketbook Wave changed the game for my notes. I can now EASILY combine into ONE pdf if I want, just by changing a few settings, and scanning each page. At the end of class, I whip out my phone, and 30 seconds later, BOOM. Notes are in a pre-selected folder in my Google drive, as one neat pdf. It makes sharing my notes easy, which is fantastic for when you tutor students, teach friends, or a classmate goes "hey man could I borrow your notes?" I also bought the colored Frixion pens, and the colors really POP in the scanned images. That said, for the skeptics, here are the 3 problems that should reasonably influence your purchase: 1.) Reusability: 5 reuses on average. 80 pages. A total of 400 pages. That is, if you can deal with ghosts that don't show up when you scan the pages. You will end up with ghosts of previous notes after wiping your notebook. These range in severity depending on how much pressure you write with, and how densely you write. Sometimes I can't tell I've used the page before. Other times, I regret coloring in that diagram... I tend to wipe the book before actually using all of the pages (I haven't used all 400 theoretical pages yet). The average page gets more like 6 wipes. 2.) Durability: I do understand if someone is frustrated that their pens and notebook wiped themselves in their hot car. If you set the notebook on fire, that is your fault. However, it is a paper notebook with a plastic coating on the cover so you can set a glass of water on it in the microwave. As with any notebook, you really ought not to get it wet nor tear it. Keep it inside something that won't ruin the edges; like a padfolio. I made the mistake of keeping in my backpack like regular notebooks; still scans, but looks ugly. 3.) Price: Obviously, you can buy 400 pages of notebook paper and colorful pens, then scan notes into pdf all for less than $27. I pay nearly $45 for the notebook and my PREFERRED set of Frixion pens. I also deal with keeping them both at room temperature to avoid writing in invisible ink. I do this because for twice the cost, it lets me do the same stuff in half the space, half the waste, and half the time. To me, the convenience is well worth it.
