Fantastic Game
This is a tremendous game, and will keep you thinking about potential card combos long after you stop playing, and until/while you play it again. There is a max of four players in this version. If you play King of Tokyo, you may realize this also eliminates Tokyo Bay. There are also some cards unique to this version. This game will accept and be compatible with any King of Tokyo expansion sets. This is a very fun game with a LOT of replay-ability.

Fun for all
Really fun game with good flavor. It just seems really well balanced and in my experience very well received by most people. Easy to understand but game play doesn't feel shallow. Has what I consider a good mix of random and strategy where you make decisions to try to skew thing in your favor based on what you are randomly presented with. You still make decisions that matter but the game isn't anywhere near a straight contest of skill. A veteran/adult could technically have a significant advantage against the first game of an unadvised beginner/child but the learner curve is very low and the gap should vanish reasonably well (and possibly in less than a game for an adult). It's also extremely easy to give beginners minors tips as you go (e.g. that buyable card is strong) in a way that doesn't diminish their participation or make their first game feel like a learning tutorial. It feels like it has a good game length too, enough time to build up your character some but not drawn out too long if someone gets knocked out early. It's quick enough to reasonable play a couple games in a sitting too so someone just doesn't get stuck with a single game of bad luck for the evening. Also the king of the hill targeting rules make it hard to gang up on anyone who doesn't want to be which is always nice for the style of game. You can still get opportunities to prod at individuals in limited ways outside that targeting so you don't feel overly restricted by it either. I have only played with the Power Up expansion included technically. It does effect the game play a decent amount and it's hard to mentally predict some of the nuanced changes but I can't imagine it is necessary to make this game as great as it is.

KoT Origins - Less Components, still a GREAT game
I'm here to tell you what's in the box. This is a simplified version of King of Tokyo. Still the same great game, but without some of the extra things. For example, the original version came with two extra dice, those are removed. The original version had extra cardboard tokens for the Shrink Ray, Poison, and Mimic cards. Those were removed because they are easy to lose. It only comes with 4 Monsters, instead of 6 like the original, because playing with 4 NEW monsters makes the rules more streamlined. Those are the key changes. It's still a great game. And if you find that you LOVE it, the next upgrade would be to King of Tokyo - Monsters Box, which adds 10 monsters and Evolution cards for more fun. Or, maybe the "Even More Wicked" expansion, if you want something more budget friendly. Finally, if you're a veteran player, then you could strip this game for parts. It has 4 Unique Monsters. and 14 NEW power cards. Besides the other components: six dice, energy cubes, another Board, and power cards. If you're the type of fan that is collecting the monsters, then it won't hurt to have backups just in case.

Fun game to buy. Four stars for the price. But it’s amazing game everyone needs to try it once!

Fun engaging and up to six players.
Such a fun game. I was introduced to it over the weekend by a friend. And by the end of the first game I had already added to my Amazon Shopping cart. It's hard to find a game for up to 6 people that takes 30 or so. This game is already added to my list of favorites.

Monster Box is full of value, fun, strategy, and replay variety!
King of Tokyo base game is easy enough for family with kids 8+, but with enough strategy to keep adults brains fully engaged. Add the game features of Costume Cards and Power Up Evolution Cards, separately or together, and King of Tokyo goes from cute and silly to brutal and demanding! Set up time is just a few minutes. The rules can be a little tricky for the first game or two, then become second nature. My girlfriend and I are in our sixties, and this game makes us feel like kids! Crazy fun for three to six players, but two can have a blast when each player has two monsters. I love: *The price! *Spacious box with molded insert that stores everything neatly. *The artwork. *The clever and useful dice rolling tray. *The mix-and-match game mechanics. *Extra room in box if you buy Monster Pack expansions (which I'm sure I will). *Monster packs (purchased separately) that add new game mechanics and a new monster in every pack.
