is there a manual for these earphones?

not really, it does come with a paper insert, but not much info in it. But there isn't much needed. The ear bud tips just pop on/off for replacing and desired function of the different buds, Plug in and play.

Can I use them with an ipod nano?

Yes, it will fit the headphone jack on an ipod nano :)

Will they stay secure in my ears while swimming laps? they will be attached to my mp3 player on my waist.

This swimming headset will provide adequate watertightness if you select earbuds that fit your ear canals. Watertightness is totally dependent on correct earbud size. I do not recommend wearing an MP3 player around your waist. The flow of water over the length of cord from the headset to the MP3 player will constantly pull on the headset and will most likely pull the headset out of your ear canal. I recommend placing the MP3 player on your goggle strap and using a shorter cord length thereby reducing the pull caused by the flow of water.
