Great!
This is a really cute movie, but only if you have seen the first one and understand the history and inside jokes of the original characters, etc. The part that I really enjoyed is seeing many of these characters more "grown up" (aka, more middle-aged), and facing common issues that many long-time married couples and families face as they grow older. That said, I still have to say that the first one was a little better. Considering that this was made sooo many years after the first one, and they were able to get most (if not all) of the original people in to do this follow-up, it stands out to me as very impressive. There are a lot of sweet moments, and they did indeed stay true to character on the original cast. I love how they portrayed Toula in this era in her life, where she is juggling with possible upcoming empty-nest syndrome, lack of romance, and people pulling her in different directions, expecting her to be Super Woman and fix/smooth everything over for everyone and everything. While they were light-hearted in portraying this through the movie, I feel a lot of women who have trouble saying "no" when others come running to them for help constantly for their own life's problems (at the sacrifice of tending to her own immediate issues, whether it's making time for romance, getting "me time", or whathaveyou) can really relate. I also like how they portrayed Toula's fear of her child going away to college, since it's apparent she spent a lot of her time wrapping her world around her daughter, and she is confused on how to handle this if she leaves. Many mothers share this same fear when their kiddos leave the nest, and I think it was a great, realistic (albeit light) way of showing the emotional struggle many parents face when the time comes for them, too. When I first saw My Big Fat Greek Wedding (first one), my husband and I did not have children, so we really could relate to the primary characters in some ways. Now that we are older and have children, it was refreshing to watch this and see how Toula and Ian (and the rest of Toula's family) had grown, and how they are facing issues regarding children and getting older, too. I would ordinarily give this about 4.5 stars out of 5, but since I can't give 1/2 stars, I am rounding it up. While we enjoyed this movie, it did not have quite the same charm as the first, but it was still very well written, creative, and still held our attention in a way that we could still relate to the primary characters like the first one.

A Must Have Movie
If you saw the first movie, this becomes that must have movie to add to the collection. A continuation of the kooky antics of a close Greek family. Great for family movie night and seems to age well as movies go. Enjoy a feel-good movie and add a little Mediterranean spice to your movie line-up.

A great addition to add to your movie collection, especially if you have the first movie.

Every but as funny and loving as the original film
Rarely are sequels as much fun as th originals but MBFGW 2 is!The characters are all grown up, and as in real life, the family relationships have changed. The grown children are now taking care of their parents while raising teenage children also. Their marriages are forced to adapt to this reality. This all happens with love and lots of humor. The basic premise is that it is discovered that the marriage of Toula’s parents is not valid and they must be remarried. Hence the big fat Greek wedding! Luckily the family is as close as ever, now including Toula’s not so Greek in laws Rodney and Harry, and they all throw a warm, family wedding. Rodney and Harriet are now honorary Greeks and Harriet even does the Greek tradition of spitting as the bride walks down the isle, very funny. While this is happening Toula and Ian are raising a teenage daughter and trying succesfully to put the romance back in their marriage. Still beautifully dressed Aunt Voula discovers that her son Angelo is gay and must accept his non Greek partner. ‘He looks Greek to me.’ Her daughter Nikki is still flirting as she adjusts her chest upon meeting John Stamos’ character. Toula’s brother and sister are raising their families as they all live side by side on the same street. Some things, thank God, have not changed and are as funny and loving as ever.

Almost as good as the first one.
I felt this was a great follow up to the first movie. However, I also watched MBFGW part 3 and was very disappointed. They should have saved the film. I think someone just wanted to make a few extra dollars. But movies 1 and 2 are so funny and well done. They're good enough to go back and watch again for some good laughs.
