should the jump starter battery be recharged to 100% after each use, or allowed to "run down" before recharging?

This unit uses lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion battery CAN NOT develop a "memory". The *only* battery type that had the "memory" problem, where recharging from a partially discharged state would result in the battery developing a memory and losing charge capacity, are the old Nickel-Cadmium (NiCad) batteries . Almost nothing uses NiCad batteries anymore because they don't hold much energy for a given size, can't release what little energy they do hold very fast, and because cadmium is incredibly toxic. So unless a device that you already own says that it contains NiCad batteries (because who would buy a new device with NiCad batteries if they had a choice) , you can assume that there is no need to completely discharge the battery to keep it from losing capacity. In fact lithium-ion batteries degrade FASTER if they are fully run down before recharging. This is because the cathode (which is what stores the lithium as the battery is discharged) swells in size as the battery is discharged. The greater percentage the battery is discharged, the more the cathode swells and the more stress there is on it and the faster the cathode material crumbles causing the battery loses capacity. So you will be MAXIMIZING the life of your jump starter (and anything else you own that uses lithium-ion batteries like your cellphone, laptop computer, bluetooth headphones, wireless speakers, Tesla electric car, etc.) if you always recharge it after any use. One other factor to be aware of is that lithium-ion batteries, like all batteries, slowly lose their charge while they sit idle. Lithium-ion batteries lose about 1%-2% a month at room temperatures (68 F/20 C), but they can lose 3%-4% of their power a month if they are stored in a hot car. So even if it has been just sitting in your glovebox or trunk, it is a good idea to recharge it every 6 months (or before going on a long trip) to make sure it has the maximum amount of energy.

It comes with instructions and I am sure someone out there has put a UTube video up to show you exactly how to use it. I am a 70 year old woman on my own and I started a dead battery in the middle of the night in a creepy parking lot so I am sure you will figure it out too!
