Do you keep the soap nuts in the washer during the rinse load?How can the clothes get properly rinsed if the soap product in still in the rinse water?

Unlike regular laundry soap, there are no detergents or chemicals in soap nuts. From what I've read, soap nuts just break the surface tension of water so the water can get your clothes cleaner. Since there's no detergent or harsh chemicals, there's nothing to rinse out of your clothes (other than dirt). Leaving the soap nuts in during the rinse will not harm your clothes, and some say they even act as a natural fabric softener.

Has anyone used these to wash their hair?

Soap nuts are commonly used in India and Nepal for washing hair and bathing. I personally have tried it by simmering a few on the stove in some water to make a "tea" out of the Saponin then poured the "tea" through my hair while lightly agitating it. It works great, but I do recommend a leave-oil treatment when using soap nuts since they do not contain a moisturizer.-Jess

About how many loads can be done with the soap nuts and Extreme 18X total? (these will usually be small cloth diaper loads)

I get 5 to 8 loads out of 8 nuts. The majority of the time I use them on the cloth diapers and baby cloths (also small loads).

Can I use the little vial of soap that it comes with to make home made shampoo?

I think it best to only use the vial of soap for laundry or cleaning purposes since it is so concentrated and has preservatives in it. But I have made my own shampoo out of the soap nuts which does a very good job of cleaning your hair gently but it just does not lather like shampoos you buy in stores. If you are concerned with getting away from all the chemicals and ingredients found in commercial shampoos, this is a great alternative. I have found it even better to just mix in a little liquid Castile soap, so as to have a little lather. There are so many great recipes online on YouTube for natural homemade liquid Castile soap as well as anything else you may use NaturOli Soap Nuts with. It definitely does a great job at cleaning laundry!
