Channellock RT-3 Convertible Retaining Ring Plier Set, 3-Piece, Blue

I purchased this tool after being unable to find a capable plier at any of the local tool depots. I needed to remove and replace an internal, 2-3/8 inch retaining ring. Nothing I found was large enough for the task. I was a bit apprehensive when I first put the item in my cart, but once received, those concerns quickly vanished. Although an odd looking contraption, the tool is well engineered, is rugged, has nicely cushioned handles, and sold with a very nice assortment of tips. Six pairs: an almost straight pair, and almost right angle pair in 3 color coded tip sizes to be exact. Plus two extra set screws, an allen wrench, and a handy pouch to carry all the loose pieces (not the tool unfortunately) were included. The ratchet design worked effortlessly. A thumb release, although clumsy to use at first, was very effective in releasing the tension applied to the ring once installed or removed. The "Ext" and "Int" worked magically to reverse the force of the tool. A change in the position of the handy switch lever was all the was required to change modes. Interestingly, I was initially confused by the switch mode labeling. If you want external ring mode, move the lever to cover "Int", revealing "Ext" and vice versa. The "Made in the USA" badge is a huge plus and in my opinion foretells a long life expectancy in my shop. Highly recommended as your one-for-all (mid-range) retainer ring tool.
