Q: How does it mark the wood

The small wheel at the end of the steel rod is tapered muck like a knife blade but not sharp it rools over the wood fibers and creates a fairly precision line. The markings on the rod are in inches and metric, but are a little hard to read. I took a yellow crayon and rubbed over them, then wiped off the rod leaving wax in the markings. Had mine over a year, no gripes!

Where is everything made? It's a knockoff!! But I must say in all fairness, this is a very good tool. It doesn't stack up to a $200 tool for fit and finish. It does lock into place and is accurate enough to get the job done. Just remember you're laying out joints in 'Wood' that expands and contracts, not a steel plate. My beef is the unreadable markings. Degrease the bar, paint it black, go over the markings with a contrasting color and carefully wipe off the excess! BTW if no one wants the moustache sticker I'll pay for the postage to send it to me.
