The newer card will work fine. Note that APC is changing their firmware upgrade policy from free to paid subscription. They normally release a management card update once or twice a year. As of 8-2023, they have not released a price listing.

Yes according to APC's documents, AP9640 is compatible with SMT2200RM2U
