great tool
This tool simplifies removal of rubber impeller from sea water or raw water cooling pump body. Without this device needle nose pliers are typically used to pull the impeller out of the pump body. Using pliers can result in damaging the edge of the pump body when pliers "rest" on the edge of the pump body. Such "resting" can dent the edge of the bronze pump resulting in a water leak where the edge was dented. This Sea Dog tool prevents such damage. The side clamping bolts are best replaced with hex head bolts in order to tighten the "grip" of the tool on the sides of the impeller. The long bolt that pushes against the pump shaft MUST be greased to prevent galling of the treads.

Works easy for some (engines), difficult for others
Works, but not like I expected due to my impeller's size. I thought the "gripper" arms would go all the way down to the base...but due to the length of my Cummins QSB impeller, I have to tighten them against the sides when they're still an inch-plus from the bottom. Still takes a lot of effort to convince the impeller to come out, but at least doesn't damage it in the process. Worked, but was an ordeal. The smaller size, however, worked exactly as I thought it would for my Northern Lights 6 kw generator's impeller. Gripped the base and easily came right out.

Ease of use
This is a great product and I will be ordering another one and have recommended this puller to my boating friends. I have used this puller on my Mastercraft X Star and ProStar 197 - they have the Chevy Vortec MCX 350) and it works a treat. The great thing about this tool is that it makes it REALLY easy to remove the impeller but more importantly it does not damage the impeller when removing it. This potentially saves changing the impeller because if it is still in good condition you can put a bit of siicone grease on the impeller and re fit it. Even though some would recommend changing the impeller every 100 hours or every ski season I have not found it necessary to do so and this tool has more than paid for itself in $$$ and time and effort. I am buying another one for the water pump on my 57 Hp Yanmar diesel engine.

Useless As Designed
Being able to screw the center bolt against the impeller housing shaft is probably a good concept, but the claws don't bite into the impeller, so it doesn't work at all. I even tried tightening them down by cranking on the knobs with a wrench. No good. Probably need sharper claws, multiple claws, or some type of latch-close mechanism.

Under ideal conditions, may work
Did not work for me. It may work under more ideal conditions and I kept it since I did unpackage it and gave it a try. These two impellers were real buggers and one I couldn't even get the tool in the working space.
