The Xlear Natural Nasal Spray with Xylitol is fantastic! It’s gentle, easy to use, and really helps clear nasal congestion without any harsh chemicals. It's so harmless a newborn babe can be given Xlear 10 times a day w/no problem, yet it really does a great job. The only "active" ingredient is Xylitol, dissolved in distilled water, with some grapefruit extract added. Xylitol is just another of the several forms of sugar, but it's a very SLIPPERY form and by spraying it into your nostrils, it works in tandem with your natural mucous to keep out allergens and germs. Mucous traps foreign particles or germs by getting them stuck in the mucous, and gradually being flushed out of the nose. Xlear "washes' them out cuz it's so slippery, and cuz it also acts like a saline solution to aid mucous flow. In effect, it amounts to "washing" your nasal passages with a quick spray that is far more effective than any saline, yet more benign and easy to use and safe and inexpensive too. My girlfriend has had the WORST sinus problems, operations, etc, by far of anyone I've ever known, was treated by TOP specialists, for years she spent a couple hours EVERY day to flush out and clear out her sinuses. Xlear actually gave her back a normal life. A couple squirts of the spray a couple times a day, zero side effects, and her sinuses stay clear/clean, almost never a sinus infection anymore, etc. She considers it a godsend, as does a friend who moved to Austin, TX. He'd never had allergies til he moved there -- Austin is supposedly the 2nd worst place in the US for allergens. Well, Mike began to suffer from allergies for the first time in his life, but his home and family and so on had just rooted themselves there and he couldn't leave. He saw top allergy experts, did get some relief, but he told me the Xlear gave him really great relief and was good as a preventive measure also. It can't do harm and it WILL help ANYONE. I have no allergy problems, but the idea behind Xlear made sense to me, so I tried it and I'm now hooked. ANY time you have a stuffy nose for just about ANY reason, Xlear REALLY helps INSANTLY (well, it does take a few seconds to a minute to complete its job). It clears you up, cleans you out, makes your nasal passages feel open and comfy. Their blurb mentions that over 90% of all throat and lung infections enter the body via the nose, and what Xlear's job is, is to keep such germs as well as other foreign particles from getting past your nose into the throat or bronchial tubes or the lungs. IT WORKS. I haven't had a serious cold or flu since I began using it. Even if you have NO sinus or other nasal problems (that's me) you should have a bottle around and better still use it from time to time or better still regularly a few times a day when you think of it, and you'll quickly udnerstand why it is a REALLY effective PREVENTIVE of colds, flus, and other nasal/respiratory problems, probably the best preventive you could find. If you can keep the germs out, then you don't NEED the "immune system boosting" vitamins and minerals and so on in the first place. I'm not saying to stop any vitamin or other regimen you like, just that Xlear is a completely different "line off defense" that works separately and in addition to strengthening your immune system. I would sum it up by saying Xlear is the ounce of prevention that's worth a TON of cure, and by the amount I've written you can tell I really think it's one of those truly GREAT products you run across every once in a blue moon and then permanently "adopt" into your life.

Xlear also has small packets that are to be added to neti pots or other devices for nasal irrigation. I personally, like the convenience of this spray bottle. No mixing for me. Although, I wouldn’t consume xylitol, I am fine with using it as a nasal rinse on an occasional basis for nasal rinsing. There was one study (20 subjects) that found that “xylitol nasal irrigations resulted in greater improvement of chronic rhinosinusitis symptoms as compared to saline irrigations.” I researched and found that there is some controversy over the safety of this ingredient. The manufacturing process is something you may want to research. I am not saying there aren’t benefits to using xylitol ( a sugar alcohol.) You can also make your own spray using grapefruit seed oil. Why should I use this over cheaper saline sprays? This solution moisturizes the nasal tissues and doesn’t dry them out like saline sprays or rinses. If you take antihistamines often, you know how important that is. What I like : There is no bad taste, burning, irritation and my nasal passages feel clean. Xylitol prevents irritants and bacteria from sticking to nasal tissues while moisturizing these delicate tissues. Nasal rinses with xylitol may be more effective than simple saline solutions. They may not prevent sinusitis, but will help reduce their occurrence. Xylitol apparently has all sorts of anti-bacterial as well as anti-fungal properties. Researchers state that xylitol inhibits the adherence of germs (burkholderia in the study) to airway linings thereby helping to prevent recurrent infections. I hope this information was helpful. Of all the nasal sprays I have used over the years, this one ranks as #1 for instant relief. It's hard not to sound gross when describing this, but you can actually feel the blockage break-up and slide away. You don't get this "relief" with other sprays. I had to look up how Xylitol, normally a sweetener works in a nasal spray and it says it works like a soap to break up congestion. If you suffer from a stuffy nose and want a natural instant relief, this stuff is great!

Works incredibly well for reducing inflammation in my sinuses. Great during the post-cold period when you aren't sick any more but your nose and sinuses are still irritated
