Excellent Value
For the price, this is excellent value. Apart from plugging it in there is little installation required. The front grill is actally quite thin plastic, chrome plated. It is attached to the front with little magnets. It looks ok, but I think it would be easily broken if not taken care of. We bought this particular unit because it resembled the old gas fire it replaced. We found that the old brass grill from the previous fire fitted perfectly instead. Looking at the other reviews/ questions, yes, the white 'do not cover' notice does spoil the effect. However, the paint on the hood is black satin, and the notice could be painted out. The LED display does go off after a few seconds. While on 'standby' the standby light remains on. The LED flame effect can be used with the heating part off. Time and day was fairly easy to set, but it loses the information if the power fails or it is unplugged. The manual insists on called the 'Day' as the 'Date', which is confusing . You cannot set the 'date', but you can set the 'day of the week'. There are 10 timer programs which include the day of the week, and times for on and off. Pressing the 1000w and 2000w buttons selects those heat settings, but the button has to be pressed again to turn one heat setting off before the other can be turned on. (A quirk you get used to) Power consumption . . . (Jan 2023 prices) Standby - 0.4w (24hrs a day - £1.16/year) Display only - 4.5w (8hrs a day - £4.30/year) 1Kw setting - 1050w 2Kw setting - 2012w A great little fire, and I am very pleased with it.

Making home of a period cottage
Excellent value for money. Fitted straight out of the box with no fuss and has given a warm welcoming feature to the room. Easy to use time and temperature settings but spends most of its time on flicker flame.

Bright flame
I bought this only for the flame effect. Realistic. I replaced the coals that were provided with glass effect chips used on other fires. Makes a big difference with the flame effect.

Looks good
Excellent only disappointment is the white 'do not cover' on yhe black canopy it's unsightly. The flame effect us quite good but needs some red in it to be more realistic. The guard at the bottom looks good but is plastic. Nit sure I like the remote, would have ordered turn on turn of, hi heat low heat, but that's just me being older.

Well worth it and realistic flames
Nearly bought dimplex optimist but I didnt want the extra work of refilling the water everyday and I was worried about the buildup of limescale / hard water in the water pipes / inside mechanisms.. so decided just get one I turn on and off with no stress. So glad I chose this one, I love the flames, to me they are realistic ! It makes my bedroom sooo cozy and it was in warehouse deal for 106 pounds.. well worth it and glad I chose this one. Remote control and heat works well.

Looks great
Delivery of this fire wasn't great. I'm disabled and have trouble walking. Delivery driver left my fire out on the pavement. I have a step I to my house and had great difficulty getting it over the step but that's not the sellers fault it's Amazon's Fire is very easy to set up. Just plug it In. No need to set the date and time. Batteries are needed for the remote. Instructions are printed very small so I had trouble reading them. The display that appears on the fire goes off after a few seconds. Two heat settings 1000kw and 2000kw. There's a switch under the hood to turn it on. I turned mine on and it started working but only for about 20 seconds and did not come back on again. I tried everything. I was told to press the 2000 and the plus button so I did, still nothing. I was all set to send it back when I found out you have to keep pressing the plus button to turn the thermostat up. Now I know what to do i find this fire is amazing. Not only does it look great,it's heats up my cold living room very quickly. Only negative is the white print "Do not cover" printed on the black hood. They could have used removable sticker
