Review: Buchanan - Right on the mark - I normally never write reviews , but this is one book whre I have never read material which concerns me more about the future. The author has compiled in this one book all the major things that are going wrong with the political systems of the western world. The civilisation that our Western world has built up has with all its faults and problems, lifted the standard of living, the freedom from want and the democracy to go with it for great masses of people. But now we watch our politicians and less well disposed people diligently working away to destroy it all, sometimes with good but ill considered intentions. eg why did Politicians rescue banks in 2008 but have no control over them or their obsene Bankers bonuses ? I am British but this book concerns me as a lot of it is relevant to the UK and Europe - I have always admired Pat Buchanan since I watched him on the ' McLaughlin Report ' - see for yourself inside why this book SHOULD worry the West Review: A MUST READ BOOK - Well this book was an eye opener. I had thought along the lines of what Patrick J. Buchanan was writing about - and then I discovered much more. America is going to be a 'has been ' country unless it gets its act together. It's unbelievable really that such a great country, such a great superpower should come to this. Why? Well I could tell you and it concurs with what Patrick J. Buchanan thinks but I would highly recommend that you read this book and follow through with your own interpretation of what you think. It's not one thing but a collection of things that's brought that once great country to its knees. The founding fathers of America must be turning in their graves. It's with all this information and insight of this great author that this book NEEDS to be read- for what happens in America will surely follow here. Take note Great Britain. Five star recommended!

A remarkable read
I've recently read Pat Buchanan's "Death of the West" and "Suicide of a Superpower" and I was very impressed by both books. The causes of America's decline, both relative and absolute, are many, and Buchanan analyses these with remarkable clarity and perception. From the social revolution of the 1960s through to our current cult of diversity, he touches on the loss of religious faith, feminism, abortion, declining birth rates, race issues, mass immigration, both legal and illegal, and a reckless and wasteful foreign policy. I found myself in agreement with the author on virtually everything he had to say. Personally speaking, it makes for uncomfortable reading at times; I am a well-educated white male who ticks the "none" box for religion and has taken the decision not to get married or have children, so in a sense am part of the problem for western civilisation. It is also dispiriting at times; to take one quote: "The difference between an optimist and a pessimist is that the pessimist is usually better-informed". The damage which has been done to this amazing country is unfathomable, and yet the author does not rule out the possibility of a recovery. I would also add that this book should be required reading for anyone who was surprised by last year's presidential election result. If the current incumbent has any sense, he will invite Pat Buchanan into his inner circle and benefit from the wisdom that comes from his decades of political experience.

Lacking academically
Apart from researchers/ people interested in populism, I wouldn’t recommend this book. Buchanan doesn’t understand trade. He outlines how demographic trends threaten conservative parties (I.e GOP in USA), however he fails to suggest solutions (i.e. reaching out to black communities, who often hold socially conservative views). The Buchanan paints an isolationist, non-interventionist foreign policy in a good light, without acknowledging the extent to which the current world order benefits American enterprise and security. Overall a poor read.

An excellent book backed by factual information. The author wakes the reader up to reality. It's a "must read" for all Americans.

Coming from a small mono-ethnic town in Western-Europe I used to have no doubts about the truth as it was presented to me by all kinds of media at that time. It is still the truth for most western people: multiculturalism, interracial marriage, homo- and bisexuality, liberalism towards drugs are all cases that are fought for by honest intellectuals who want to create a better world. The so-called idealists. Moving to a city to study at university I gradually began to see the other side of all these so-called achievements in practice: criminality, violende, divorce, explicit promotion of perversity, prostitution, large-scale heroin addiction etcetera. The strange thing is: West-Europeans have learned to find all this completely normal. After being confronted with the other side of so-called liberal society, the thinking process starts. At first I tried to find the answer to the "why question" mostly in traditional rightwing politics. In Europe, unfortunately, the so-called rightwing does not differ fundamentally from the leftwing in fighting the excesses sketched above. In fact, it is all nearly the same! Except some so-called far-right parties, nearly every party in Western-Europe is pro gay-marriage for example! Living in the US nowadays I know that Republican and Democratic politics can differ to a much greater extent. But to the point: by experience, reading and reconstructing I went on answering the "why question", but with Kevin MacDonald's book a lot of pieces from the big puzzle fell into place. I know that I'm not the only one who has experienced great feelings of guilt on the way to finding the truth about certain sociological phenomena. From their youngest years most western people are subject to an ongoing stream of indoctrination that aims at forbidding to even think about certain facts or opinions. After reading this book nobody can deny that a lot of things presented as liberalism are just ways to divide and confuse Western man. This divide and conquer liberalism has nothing to do with freedom. From my experience in Europe I can say that jews there have many high positions in government, entertainment and other large companies. A lot of these functions have to do with promoting multiculturalism and shaping a nationwide and international thought police that is mostly called anti-racism. Although MacDonald's book is mostly focused on America, the presented theory holds for Europe as well. The most striking aspect of the whole book is the organized thought control by institutions who see in certain opinions a conflict with Jewish interests. This book is one of the biggest eye-openers available to everyone who is anxious to understand what exactly is going on in the Western world.

I'm a little late to the party with this review but had to add my two cents to what is likely Patrick Buchanan's most important book to date. Having read several of Pat's earlier books I think I am safe in saying "Suicide of a Superpower" is a consolidation of a number of his earlier works. So, if you have yet to read any of Buchanan's earlier titles this is the book to buy. If you have read those earlier books this one will offer the benefit of updated statistics, information and analysis - in other words, a great refresher course. Buchanan is the consummate authority on all things in the political and social realm. His Washington background will match anyone's. He served the country at the bequest of presidents and served as a distinguished contributor to several, award winning, network news programs. Agree with him or not, his opinions have always been welcomed. And, most astonishingly, at the end of the day his integrity has always been kept intact. He has never compromised his beliefs for either popularity or expediency's sake. For the above reasons, when Buchanan weighs in on a subject, it behooves us all to play close attention. Chapter titles include: 1 - Passing of a Superpower, 2 - Death of Christian America, 3 - Crisis of Catholicism, 4 - End of White America, 5 - Demographic Winter, 6 - Equality or Freedom, 7 - The Diversity Cult, 8 - Triumph of Tribalism, 9 - "The White Party", 10 - The Long Retreat & 11 - The Last Chance No nuance here. Pat pulls no punches in laying out exactly where we've been and where we're headed. His is not a read for the faint of heart. For those still firmly immeshed in political correctness or "White Guilt" you might want to start with lighter fare. Keep those training wheels in place until you can withstand the rocky road of reality. For those who have successfully broken through the chains of liberal conditioning this material will ring true - clear as a bell. Everything Pat sets forward in this clarion call is rock solid fact. It will ruffle more than a few feathers because it exposes an agenda many are not yet ready to have disclosed. Only a patriot could compose a treatise this honest. This is only a review so I must limit myself to broad generalities. Every one of these chapter heads could be expanded upon at great length without much provocation. Besides, why spoil Buchanan's masterful writing and analysis with a layman's secondhand accounting. This book was published in 2011. Barack Obama had already had nearly three years with the wrecking ball. As bad as things appeared in 2011, two years later the damage has increased exponentially. As scandal after scandal mounts higher and higher some of the citizenry are starting to stir. Wether or not it's too late is anyone's guess. The corruption in politics is so systemic it will take a herculean, grassroots groundswell to right this faltering ship. Vince Flynn, the noted novelist, died recently from prostrate cancer. He told his friends, when first apprised of his condition and its advanced state, that until the doctors diagnosed his illness he felt perfectly fine. Some things in life are like that. Before we recognize there is a problem it's too far advanced to correct it. We may not have viewed our problems as terminal because too many of us have had our heads buried in the sand for far, far, far, too long. To paraphrase Rush Limbaugh from one of his recent broadcasts: "We might be able to survive an Obama but what we can't survive is a population that will continually vote for one". Pat Buchanan has stated on any number of occasions that the solution to our problems is spiritual. Until there is a return to this realization Barack and his ilk will continue to have their way with us. Viva Cristo Rey!

Even if you think you know, you will discover quite a few facts here that will make you reconsider your assumptions. Perhaps past generations were not optimistic about "the future", but it's hard to not see the doom and gloom coming looking at the numbers presented in this book.
