Durable, reliable, fast charging, close shave
I had my first Braun electric razor for 10 years. Over the years I broke the foil from dropping it and just got a replacement foil. The second time I did it, I decided to just buy a new razor altogether. This one is the same great quality. I use it everyday. Close shave, charges quickly, easy to clean. Would recommend this to anyone.

A convenient, cost-effective, smooth shave
I just wanted to show some appreciation for this razor, since I've been having such a good experience with it. I have tried several razors over the past 2 years and this one was surprisingly a standout over all of them. Why? It's convenient, affordable, and it gives me a smooth shave with minimal irritation. The good: + The shaver has a nice solid build. I really appreciate the grippiness of the rubber handle. I also noticed that my hand just wants to go to the sides of the razor where it's designed to be held. I have noticed with some other razors that my thumb often ends up on the power button and accidentally turns it off. This does not happen with this razor for me. + A quick, smooth shave: It only takes a couple of passes to get a decently close shave. I will say that I've had razors that cut closer than this, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. I get razor burn on my neck from electric razors, but this one has never given me razor burn, so that's a big plus for me for a smooth shave. Also, I have only gotten minimal ingrown hairs from this razor, which I can't say for a lot of others I have tried. + Convenient: This razor is fairly cheap. The replacement parts are fairly cheap. I have had other razors that are fairly high maintenance and require spending time cleaning with each shave. While I'm sure you *could* do a deep clean on this razor every time you use it, I have noticed that just shaking out the excess hairs from the guards seems to be enough without a huge hit on performance. So I would say it's easy to clean. I also appreciate that if I lost this razor on a trip that it would not be that expensive to replace, compared to some more pricey options. + Features: Perhaps the biggest thing I have noticed trying several different types of razors is that the cutter bar in the center seen on some razors (such as this one) is absolutely essential to a good clean shave. I have hairs that grow in several different directions on my neck that are really difficult to remove with some razors. What I have noticed is that razors that come with the cutter bar in the center of their foils tend to do a much better job of getting these hairs. I also like that this one comes with the built-in beard trimmer to get the hairs that get too long for the cutter bar. With this razor, I rarely get the random stray hairs on my neck that I have had at times from other razors. + Noise level: This razor is on the quieter end of electric razors I have tried. Not the quietest razor, but not noticeably loud. It's an electric razor -- it's going to make some noise when you use it. The bad: - It would be nice if the power cord came with one of those upright stands. I just think it would look nicer in the bathroom that way. - The power button doesn't really have a safety lock. It seems like it would be easy to accidentally turn it on while it's sitting in a bag. The plastic cover does also cover the button, but it seems like it would still be easy to accidentally press it even with the cover on. Overall, I would highly recommend this razor if you want something affordable that can also get a relatively smooth shave in a short amount of time. I appreciate *not* having to spend a lot of time in the bathroom shaving every morning, so I really appreciate this razor.

A competent shaver, that is growing on me
I purchased this shaver for my husband. His review follows. The Braun 3040s is a competent shaver and gets the job done. Although at first I found it inferior to nearly 30-yr old Braun technology, i.e., the Braun system 1-2-3 cl3525 shaver, also designated as 5567U, which I purchased in 1995. (Braun’s use of multiple product numbers and designations is very confusing!), I have learned to use it and am enjoying it more. I purchased the 3040 since my 5567 will not last forever. I’ve had the 5567 repaired a number of times over the years: new batteries, multiple repairs of the pop-up trimmer, replacement of a cracked gasket, and even a new case since the rubber nibs had worn off. Unfortunately, the locally owned shaver repair shop that serviced it over the years has now gone out of business. Through it all, the 5567 has been an excellent shaver, small, lightweight, reasonably quick, fairly quiet, cleanly shaves my beard in the areas on my face where the hairs lay flat against my skin (i.e., use of the pop-up trimmer), and the battery keeps its charge for at least a week’s worth of shaves. I routinely charge it weekly, when I also scrupulously clean it with a brush, compressed air, and then lubricate it. I purchased the new Braun 3040s because of my history with Braun, my preference for foil shavers, and since their shavers get good ratings. Also, I needed a new shaver since, as I said, mine is not going to last forever. I selected the 3040s since I didn’t need all the bells and whistles of the more expensive Brauns, and with respect to the pivoting shaver head on the more expensive models, I can see no value in it. As a customer with an engineering background the pivoting shaver head looks like it ups the cost and complexity of the shaver and does little or nothing to improve the shave. It seems to me that a good shave is all about the foil and conforming to my face. The swivel head seems like a problem and would potentially limit the force and control I have with a fixed head; in fact, one reviewer on Amazon said as much. Another feature I at first did not like on the current Brauns, except for the M90 (see below), is that they now have a double foil with a blade arrangement between. However, I must admit it does seem to cut my beard more quickly, now that I have learned to move the shaver across my skin much more slowly than with my older Braun. The new 3040 is larger and heavier, the head is too big to easily fit between my mustache and nose, it runs at a higher speed and so is buzzier. Apparently, there is a version that comes with a locking foil-retraction feature for one of the foils, that would make it easier to position under my nose, but according to Braun that is not available in the U.S. Even though the battery is newer technology I barely get a week out of a full charge, less than I get with my 5567. On the plus side, even though larger, it feels good in the hand. A minor disadvantage of the 3040 is that I cannot hear my whiskers being cut. With the 5567 I can clearly hear the difference between the foil cutting beard, vs. cutting on shaved skin. It makes it easy, without always having to run my fingers over my beard, to know when an area has been cut adequately clean. The 3040 does have some pluses over their 30-year old technology but still in ways I prefer the simple 5567 with the only needed improvement being a more durable mechanism for the pop-up trimmer. That would be fabulous. Perhaps Braun’s one major shaver “advancement” has been reducing costs. I paid $60 for the 3040 on Amazon, which is exactly what I paid for the 5567 back in 1995. But the inflation-adjusted price of the 5567 would be about $114 in 2022. So, Braun has succeeded in keeping costs down. As a side note, I did also purchase a Braun M90 just to give it a try, since it is a single-foil design like the 5567. It is less expensive than the 3040, but unfortunately does not have a rechargeable battery. It is nice and small, does not shave as quickly as the 3040, and it not quite up to the venerable 5567. To qualify the beard that is being used to assess the shavers, see the attached photos. I have to shave daily, not because my growth is that thick, but because many of my hairs grow parallel to my skin’s surface and I am prone to in-grown hairs if I do tend to them on a daily basis.

Quality
This is a good razor. Does the job well. Close shave so long as there's not a lot of growth over three days. It takes longer to shave. Over all good razor.

Great razor at the right price point, and it works better than the one it replaced
I bought this to replace a 20-year-old Braun shaver that would no longer hold a charge. There are many different Braun shavers, so it was hard to figure out which one to pick. I chose this one because it has the trimmer option you push up on top of the shaver, and it looked a lot like the one I had, but a little lighter. Overall, this works much better than the one it replaced, with only two things that are not as good as the original: 1) You can't use this while it is charging, and the charger cord is proprietary to this shaver. It would have been nice if this were USB-C. 2) The trimmer that pushes out does not work as well as my old one, but I don't use it much, so not a big deal. Overall, I'm really happy with the purchase, and hope to get another 20 years out of this one.

Little technique & wet shaving results this much result within 5-6 minutes. Now if your wrist can act like pivoting head to follow the contours of your face then this is the perfect shaver. Also sensitive skin with dry shave can lead to read marks but why use dry if we can finish within 5 minutes with foam or gel. Just wash it with a hot water while shaver is on & it will clean itself perfectly. Super easy!!! As no one can guess that whether you used saftey razor or this shaver. It's completely value for money. I become a fan of Braun with its cheapest line of shaver series. No doubt this is the no 1 brand in the world for electric foil shavers.

Já tinha um igual, comprei o mesmo modelo e realmente é um aparelho excelente para um barbear rente e perfeito seja a seco ou molhado. O aparador de costeletas também é ótimo e completa o serviço. A carga dura quase 2 semanas. 100% satisfeito.
