This particular design for guitar thumb picks is by far, in my opinion, one of the best. I’m not certain why, but it just seems to work better. That’s my two cents. Just somehow more “responsive”, which is to say, it seems to give better dynamic control, and is less likely to be knocked of your thumb because the blade of the pick is less rigid.

Apparently this was the type of thumbpick used by fingerstyle godfather Chet Atkins. Much more delicate than clunky normal thumbpicks, and designed to be customized for length and feel. The center prong is the key. It's easily filed to length and the desired thickness and flexibility, so the sound made by your thumb matches the sound from your fingers much more closely. Bass notes ring, they don't boom, and you can thumb-pick higher notes and sound like you're flat-picking. Excellent product!
