Woodland Scenics Track Bed
This foam track bed works great, is less expensive than cork, and holds up much better. My cork strips keep cracking and breaking, especially after a year or two. This foam bed stays flexible, and is easier to work with. I highly recommend it.

First time user
Very soft and flexible roll. I am using for the first time on grandfather's old track and it works good.

Great alternative to cork
Maybe it isn't quite as durable as cork (it is foam, afterall), but it should last quite a long time installed, especially if you properly cover it with ballast. It's very easy to lay down. Split it on the curves and cut the excess from the inside half and you'll be able to do very nice curves at any but the very smallest of radii. I use foam tack glue to lay it. Works very nicely, even if it's not its intended use.

Easy to use. that's about it
this stuff went down nice and easily for my N scale layout. but beyond that, i see it being nothing but a hassle as time goes on. it's too spongy. if you don't plan on gluing your track to it, do not buy this stuff. using nails just depresses the sponge and makes for a bad train run. and like others have said. ballasting will be a disaster as time goes on, it will crack when you go to clean the track because of how spongey this stuff is. I'm going to end up pulling all this stuff up and using cork. luckily I don't have a huge layout. so it wont be too big of a hassle to change over.

Love this product as it reduces track noises when trains are running. I've bought several packs of these and actually fixed it to the original cork base i'd installed.

Previously I have used cork for track bed in both 00 and N gauges. This was always difficult for me to lay around bends and curves in either gauge. I gave Woodland Scenics Trackbed a trial on a 5' x 3' N-gauge layout and have bought further packs for extension and other layouts. It's so easy to lay, even on tight curves (the material splits easily to take curves) and was so easy to fix in place with PVA glue. I'll also be using it on my 00 layouts in future.
