Excellent Herbal Medicine Reference
I like the book very much. For each herb, the book details common names, common trade names, available forms, actions & components, uses, preparations and amounts, adverse reactions, interactions, effects on lab test results, cautions, nursing considerations, and patient teaching. It is a very comprehensive listing. It also includes neutraceuticals listed in the same way. There is a list of common uses for herbs and neutraceuticals listed by disease or complaint. A listing of herb-drug interactions follows, along with a section on monitoring patients using herbs, a glossary and an index. It is an excellent book, in my opinion. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, and this may be a personal preference, is that it is only a paperback cover, not a thicker more durable cover as on a previous edition that I had. I really would only take off 1/2 or 1/3 or a star for that. The book is definitely worth buying for nurses or anyone who uses herbals and neutraceuticals. Note: a neutraceutical is " (quoting from the book) a natural biochemical compound that possesses medicinal properties." Some examples are vitamins and acidophilus.

Mystery black stuff and hair
Soo from flipping through, the actual pages look untouched. But, the front and back have mystery black stuff on it. The back side has hair imbedded in it... if it wasn’t for that grossness, I would’ve given 5stars.

A must have book on the shelf
You can't do without having this book. I wish they could come out with a newer version each year, but the herbal information stays the same with some new herbs discovered and added infrequently. I really use this book as a final go-to check on herb-drug interactions. The listings are the same as what you will find and read in the drug guides. It makes it easy to understand with a smooth layout.

This is a must have for anyone that is practicing ...
This is a must have for anyone that is practicing herbal medicine whether family based or community based - this book shows any possible interactions with allelopathic medications and herbs. Also there are dosages and proper usage instructions. I keep this book near by whenever I make tinctures, poultices, or grandma's remedies. I just wish they would put out a new edition ie. 2015.

Just what I wanted!
This book has all the info I needed as a nurse/new herbalist. I needed to know contraindications for non-herbal meds along with other herbs, dosages, etc. All the knowledge but no bloat. Straight to the point of what matters. Your health. Highly recommend for the medical professional. It is written for medical people using medical terms. May not be an easy read for a non medical person.
