Our 21-month-old loves it
With a child under two, it's hard to know how much she is really understanding about the whole process of expecting a baby and what's about to happen. One great sign is how well our daughter is responding to this book. She just LOVES it, and devours it, making the sign for "more" each time we finish it and flipping it over for another reading. I mean, she loves books in general but this is a big response -- I swear she asked for five reads the other night. For one thing, I think she really likes the pictures, which are full of details about being a toddler. She points out that the big sister is eating apples, like she does. The big sister takes pride in being a helper, like she does. A sippy cup is shown next to the baby's bottle -- those are the kind of things a young toddler can relate to. The mom is shown folding laundry, definitely something she can relate to! The language is also simple and easy for her to understand. It uses repetition and key words that toddlers know & love like help, and diaper, and bottle, and toys and favorite foods. I like the little lessons, like how there is mention of the baby crying and what to do about it. And how being big is a lot of fun. Another note about her age -- it's sweet & touching to watch her choose which character she relates to more, because she is in between the baby and the big sister in the book (who I'd put at 3 or 4). Sometimes on pages that show the whole family, I've asked her "which one are you?" and she points to the baby. Sometimes, the big sister. I tell her she's right either way, like, "You will always be my baby! And we're going to have a new baby too!" or "Yes, you are becoming such a big girl and you will be a Big Sister too!" I feel like we can & will refer to this book once the baby is here, and it will help her adjust.

Wonderful Preparation for a New Sibling
We recently purchased this children's book to help prepare our daughter for the arrival of her new baby sister. And I'm thrilled to say that it has been a huge success! The book is beautifully illustrated and tells a sweet story about a big sister welcoming a new baby to the family. What I love most about this book is that it's designed to help children understand and process their feelings about the new addition to the family. It's perfect for our daughter, who is eager to learn about her new sibling and what it will be like to have a little sister. We've been able to point out pictures of Mama, Dad, and our daughter, and then say "and that's your new baby sister!" It's been such a wonderful way to connect our daughter with her new sibling and help her feel more excited about the arrival. Our daughter absolutely loves this book and has asked to read it multiple times a day. It's clear that she's really enjoying the story and is starting to grasp the concept of having a new sibling. We're so pleased with this book and highly recommend it to any family expecting a new baby.

Wonderful, warm book
This book is warm and gentle. Our two year old granddaughter is several months away from being a big sister and she loves the book. It is comforting and gives her a confident view of her new role and her firm place in the family.

Comparison of two "Big Sister" books
This is a cute book. I gave it as a gift to an expecting mom with a 4-ish year old daughter (the big sister). It is generic enough that it applies whether the new sibling will be a boy or girl. I don't like the books that have the older sibling saying "my baby" throughout, and this one did not, so that was a pro for me. I bought two books, this one and I Am a Big Sister by Caroline Church. While I thought the other one was wayyyy cuter (the illustrations were cuter and I liked the cadence more) and would be great for any toddler, it was more appropriate for the 2 year old big sister I gave it to, while this one was a little more appropriate for the older big sister. This one went into a little bit more about the details of being a big sister than the other. In the future, I will probably buy the other one for any age toddler because it's just too darn cute, but I was happy with both and the content/style is comparable.
