SIZE DOES MATTER
Okay, so I am a filmmaker and shoot on a 4k camera setup. I shoot Cinema DNG files (raw) on my Sigma FP. It's a small camera and the last thing I want is a SSD taking up a lot of real estate. I did some digging and found the Sabrent Rocket Nano. Man, this thing blows away the Samsung T5 and all others. First off, its tiny!! It's all aluminum body is 2 3/4" X 1 2/16" X 1/2"!! Second it's a 2TB drive with sustained Read/Write speeds of around 900 MB/s! That is ridiculously fast compared to Samsung's 500MB/s, so I get no dropped frames or any other type of file corruption. Also, there is absolutely no formatting or setup with the Nano. I literally just plugged it in and shot. The 2TB nano shooting 4k Cinema DNG at 12bit gives me 1h50m record time. It also comes with a short (6 inch) USB C to USB C Thunderbolt 3 cable as well as a short (10 inch) USB A to USB C cable. The drive works on USB C or Thunderbolt 3 computers since it is backwards compatible. It comes in a cool aluminum case. This is a no brainer purchase. I know everyone uses the Samsung T5 or SanDisk or AngleBird and so did I. But this is smaller, faster and built extremely well. Now, if only SmallRig could design a clamp for it, all would be perfection.

Simply amazing
I purchased the 2TB version and have been using it daily for several weeks. It operates a LOT faster than any USB thumb drive or the fastest SD card. I have hooked it up to a pretty fast, latest generation ThinkPad running Windows 10, with USB3.1 (10Gbit/sec speed) and find the Rocket Nano to be amazingly useful. A beautiful feature of this drive is that I can also plug it into my Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and read/write files using my phone. No extra adapters or drivers were needed to use it on my smart phone. I have not tried it on a MAC yet, but if you format the drive in exFAT, then a MAC or PC (or Android) device can access the files. It's as fast as my computer's internal SSD on reads. The write speed is something that varies with the type of files you are writing. If you're copying very large files, such as an ISO from a DVD movie, the speed is "wicked fast". When backing up my business files, which are hundreds of small files under 2MB in size, the write speed is noticeably slower. However, even with writing small files, this drive is still FAR faster than the fastest uSD cards. Writing a single 1.7GB file took 7.89 seconds... about 215MB/second. Writing a directory that was 4.30GB, containing files that average about 6MB in size, took 30.38 seconds... around 141.5MB/seconds. Note: when writing a huge amount of data at once, such as loading the drive with a 900GB file transfer, it does get quite hot. I accidentally forced it into thermal shutdown during such a large file transfer, but no data was lost and the drive was not damaged. When thermal shutdown occurred, I cancelled the file transfer and disconnected it from my PC. Waiting 30-40 seconds for it to cool off and then plugging it into my USB-C port again allowed the remainder of my transfer to be completed. I seriously doubt that many users will experience thermal shutdown... I was really "beating on it", transferring nearly 1TB of CAD files all at once.

So far it's been what I needed to speed up my iMac!
It took a few tries but I finally was able to switch my iMac to use the device as the boot drive. The difficulty was mainly because macOS hides some of the settings from clear view with regards to making an external boot drive an option. After a few bumps, I was finally able to complete the task and the system now defaults to the SSD to boot from. I'll probably velcro this to the back of the iMac. PROS: small and compact, matches the Mac, large space, Mac now starts and runs much faster, affordable CONS: gets a bit warm to the touch but not as hot as some of the other reviews, cables are included I bought this for the main reason of speeding up an old late 2013 27" iMac and it has so far done its job. I'm pretty happy with this. If things change and my experience sours, I'll update my review.

Great size but GETS HOT which will hinder transfer speeds
Currently don't know where they are, but have had them for over a year and are great. When I first got them, heard they got hot. THEY DO. So... I bought 50mmx25mmx10mm heat sinks for them, it was a four pack and I have two drives. Put one on either side. AND PRESTO, can sustain the rated speeds and doesn't get hot. THOUGH... did hinder the portability of it by tripling its thickness, and also removed the ability to attach it to the back of my GPD Win Max devices. Overall, recommend.

Long Term Warning
I rarely write reviews and hopefully what has happened to me is a fluke, since the form factor is great. I bought the Rocket Nano in 2020 – 2TB which at the time was $300 dollars. Not a small investment. I was using it to back up very intermittent necessary files (redundancy) that I would then store in my home safe. Literally plugged it in and did a backup of my MacBook Pro 3 times in the 3 years I've had it. I went to do the same this time and it will not show up no matter what and just sits and rapidly flashes it's blue light. That's not good especially when for the price it should be totally fine for critical file storage. It's advertised as light, tiny and a true SSD and it literally sat on a shelf in a climate controlled environment and it's dead after extremely minimal use. I'd say that might be a red flag for anyone thinking about this as a backup critical device. I was actually hoping to reformat it and use it for it's intended purpose of a travel drive, but... tossed $300 bucks out the window instead. Luckily I mirror everything onto my Synology NAS too. Nice build quality, super super tiny and light, comes with nice cables. Take from this what you will. I bought it based off the positive reviews, but I would have written a positive review as well after a couple months. Hopefully this is helpful for long term considerations.

My experience is only for the 1TB version. For some reasons none of the reviews perform actual real world transfers. In CrystalDiskMark you can see read/writes at 900+ MB/s, but: In the real world, you are looking at 500MB/s to 550MB/s writes copying a large file, assuming you are using a GEN2 port. Reads were generally a little higher at 600MB/s to 750B/s. When connecting using GEN1 you will max out at 400MB/s. I found read/writes were sustainable even when copying 500+ GB in one go. Its gets warm, but not worryingly so. These speeds are still great, but bear this in mind when comparing to other options. This is a USB-C device, not a thunderbolt device. Build quality it above excellent. Packaging is so good you do not want to throw it away. The only issue I had, which may be due to my computer, was that when I swapped between the USB-C port and USB3.1 port on the same computer, the device needed the drivers to be removed, otherwise it only transferred at USB2 speeds.

To save space on my MacBook Pro I moved my Photos library to an old, spare external HDD which worked well but was slow to read/write and little large to carry between work and home. When I saw this Sabrent ROCKET nano on Amazon it seem like the ideal solution. I haven't clocked transfer speeds but it seems much faster than the old HDD. It's advertised as 1000MB/s transfer but doesn't state if that is read or write or both. I formatted this unit as APFS because I know I will use it exclusively for my Photos library and have had no issue so far. I appreciate that Sabrent includes a USB-C and a USB-A-to-C cable with the nano to ensure immediate use straight out of the box. The tiny form factor is great, only slightly larger, thicker, and heavier than the USB thumb drives that are so ubiquitous on the Web, having an aluminum exterior giving it a sleek, durable, and premium feel. I understand that the use of a metal casing also helps preserve the innards by acting as a passive heat-sink. Pricewise, this offers great value compared to offerings by SanDisk, Samsung, and Corsair. The only reason I gave a 4/5 stars rating is because I cannot vouch for the longevity of this product, having only owned and used it for less than a month. I will change the star rating in the future (up or down) depending on how this unit performs over the course of time. Reading comments by others, I will take the time to register with Sabrent for the extended warranty. Overall, though, I am currently satisfied and quite pleased with this purchase. It does what I want, reads and writes quickly enough for my needs, and is small and convenient to carry around. *** Update 22Jul2024 *** Upgrading my original 4 star rating to 5 stars. I’ve had this Sabrent storage device for just over 4 years and it has been consistently reliable and speedy in its read/write speeds. Highly recommended product that stands the test of time (well, 4 years and counting).

This stops working in between and the entire data is lost. Not at all recommend.
