Awesome solution for my old iron drain
I have a 70 year old house. Outside on patio there is a drain with a check valve and a clean out. I needed to remove clean out but the brass plug was fused to iron pipe. I beat and chiseled it out knowing I was going to struggle to find a fix, but had to be done. I found this and am amazed at how well it fixed my issue. The clean out measures 3 1/2” bit I knew I wrecked the threads and still had some of old brass plug left there. This dropped right in with a little push and then the tapered threaded plug tightened it up nicely. Also know it will come back out if needed. I’m thrilled.

WORKED GREAT
It was too big to fit with the expanding center screw adjusted all the way to the loose position. After completely removing the expanding center adjusting screw it fit perfect with a few light taps with a hammer. Worked great with no leaks!

only one that worked
have a tank full of coolant for my bandsaw. The coolant tends to evaporate over time if not sealed in well.I tried a similar plug from a big box store but it was defective and wouldnt expand so I returned it. I ordered this one and I got it to fit perfectly. Only difficulty was that you could not expand it while in place since there is little to grab on to; I had to expand it, then try the fit and repeat until I got the seal I wanted. However I was happy with the fit and dont have to replace my coolant so frequently now.

It fit the clean out pipe and sealed it well.
The threads were stripped on the stack clean out. This cap had to be tapped in, but it worked and sealed up with a few wrench turns. I liked the large square nut that could be turned snug with a wrench, over the wing nut options.

Not for old steel pipe
3 1/2" outer diameter rubber. Will not fit old steel pipe cleanout which is 3 3/8" diameter standard. Note that PVC 3" pipe has a 3 1/2" cleanout diameter standard, so it may fit PVC.

Loved it at first but 3 months later, the rubber fell apart!
No idea how that chunk fell out but I noticed this when I checked up on it last week... The fitment was perfect too. Had a GREAT seal. I want to buy another but due to the short lifespan, I will be avoiding :(

Life saver for old homes
The drain pipe branch from the toilet clogged and I had to remove the whole toilet down to the floor to rod out the branch. Figured if it happens again, I'm making my job easier next time.I wanted to be able to rod direct from the clean out plug but first I have to make sure I can remove it.Our home is around 60 years old and the clean out plug hasn't been removed since we've been there (~20 years) and has been painted over along with the cast iron pipes. Who knows if it has ever been removed.Plan A: Tried removing the existing plug but the brass square head started to round the corners. Can't open it that way.Plan B: Time to try to break out the plug by chisel and cutting with power tools. First I had to find a replacement.I went to a couple chains and could not find my size (3 1/2" dia.). This G.T. Water Products Safe-T-Seal Combo Cleanout Plug is the perfect and I mean perfect replacement. It costs more than the typical hardware store white PVC? plugs (which I couldn't find in my size). So I cut out the center square, made cuts very close to the threads of the cast iron pipe opening. Chiseled slowly and out comes the brass plug. If you do this, be careful to not let any pieces drop in, you can use good tape such as duct tape or other to keep it intact. The best thing about the GT plug is it is in two parts, outer rubber rim and the inner plug. Unscrew the two, slide the rubber part in (it shouldn't drop, it will be nice and snug if you sized properly), leave it flush or a little exposed, then screw in the inner part causing the rubber to expand sealing the opening. With the rubber part, you don't have to worry about whether the old threads are damaged and if you will have problems screwing in a hard PVC plug, etc. Put your nose to work and get close. Smell no sewer? Job done!Glad I didn't have to go to Plan C which involved more work.NOTE: It is not like the picture, the inner part is black NOT blue. Blue would have looked nicer, kind of like a pimped up cleanout plug, but black is fine.I am satisfied enough that I ordered a couple more in other sizes for my parent's home.Honestly, it was about 15 minutes of work. I spent more time typing this review up than the job itself. Please let me know if my review have been helpful to you, it will encourage me to continue writing and updating my reviews, and leave a comment if you have any questions, I will be more than happy to answer if I can be of help.
