Eyewitness to World War II: Unforgettable Stories and Photographs From History's Greatest Conflict

The photos are riveting- the stories unforgettable. Each page is better than the last. A nice progression of history with plenty of details that are not common knowledge. Rare photos. A gift for an elderly gentleman, but leafing through it before wrapping the gift, I could not put it down. So I am ordering another copy for my family. I thought I knew a lot about WWII but I learned so much from the photos and text. Personal letters were an especially poignant part of this book. Everyone should own a copy so we don't forget the past.

My grandnephew is an ROTC cadet and future Marine. He had expressed an interest in World War II history, perhaps because my father had served in the Navy during that turbulent era. I purchased for him this excellent combination of photography and detailed history of unsung heroes. What arrived wowed me. There are rare photographs, true, but the recap of military clashes tells far more than I learned in history classes during the 1960s. I strongly recommend this excellent pictorial history as a gift for anyone who plans a military career. It is a quality hardcover at a paperback price. Reviewed by L. This book is so full of information but at the same time is a good read. I had borrowed this book from the library but ended up wanting my own copy. This book has timelines, pictures, personal letters . . . Just a great reference book for those interested in WWII.

This was a christmas gift for my dad who is a history buff. The pictures are amazing (as you would expect from National Geographic) and the dialogue. I took away one star because the inner page came folded and that detracted a bit from the quality of the book but all in all a great book for my dad's coffee table and a great read.

Our order came from a third party vendor, Ethan’s Book Barn, who is making money to put himself through college. That was a plus to our order. The book came quickly and was in excellent condition. It’s a beautiful book. My father was a government and history teacher. He has a special interest in WWII. In his retirement, he enjoys seeing new viewpoints to the material he taught. He was thrilled with this book. For those who love WWII history or just history in general, this was an excellent purchase.

I got this book for my father who is huge history buff, especially WWII and the Civil War. He has read just about every book on WWII. It just came in the mail yesterday, a day after his birthday, 4th of July, and this book is visually stunning. It has beautiful photos, stories, and maps. I’ve barely been able to even let my dad look through it because it’s so fascinating. I guess it’s just as much a treat for me as a birthday gift for my father!

I bought this as a gift for my brother, a Navy Vietnam vet, who is doing a lot of research concerning a maternal uncle killed in action in WWII at age l9, who of course, we never got to know. My brother said he is loving this book because it really brings home what war back then was like. Pictures truly make the narrative come alive. My intent is also that when my brother finishes reading it, he will lend it to my dad, who DID live through the war but could not serve due to a physical injury suffered as a child; he had to stay behind as all his friends enlisted and went off to war, and he has done a lot of reading about WWII also. He lost a close friend to war. And lastly, I plan to borrow the book because I believe we all should be informed and aware of the terrible cost of war, the course of history and the price many paid, and we should have a deep appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Fantastic book for anybody who wants to get a feel of the scale of world war2. Wonderful pics and almost thewhole description of the greatest war till now.
