Avene RetrinAL 0.1 Intensive Cream, Retinaldehyde, Reduce Signs of Aging, Brighten & Rejuvenate Skin, 1.01 Oz

I did a lot of research before purchasing this product. I first heard about “Avene - RetrinAL 0.1 Intensive Cream” on YouTube. Most of the information that I’ve gleaned came from dermatologist, not self-proclaimed skincare gurus just trying to make a buck. Through dermatologists like “The Budget Dermatologist” I learned a lot about the science behind Vitamin A (retinol) and its natural derivatives such as retinaldehyde, retinoic acid, and retinyl esters, as well as a large number of synthetic derivatives. This particular product is a retinaldehyde, which converts directly into retinoic acid within the skin, bypassing the slower, two-step process required by traditional retinol. With consistent proper use, this can lead to quicker and more pronounced results. However, time and consistency is key. I read that it takes about eight months to start seeing real results and I found that to be true. I’ve been using this product for exactly one year now and I really started noticing a big difference around the eight month mark. My complexion is smoother and my skin more plump. I’ve also noticed diminishing of my fine lines and wrinkles. For reference, I’m female and at the time of this review 42 years old. I keep my skin care routine simple. Many of the dermatologist that I’ve follow say’ “less is more”. I learned that you only need to apply a pea size amount to your whole entire face, which is roughly one pump. Vitamin A can be very drying and harsh on the skin, so easing into using this product is important. However, I have extremely rosacea prone, sensitive skin and I have had no problems whatsoever with this product. Every day I wash my face with a gentle face wash then I evenly apply one pump of “Avene -RetrinAL 0.1 Intensive Cream” all over my face and follow up with a gentle moisturizer. It is important to note that you should let the “Avene - RetrinAL 0.1 Intensive Cream” soak in and fully dry before adding your moisturizer or any other product. If you have really sensitive skin, you could always try the layering method. That is where you add a light layer of moisturizer before applying the “Avene - RetrinAL 0.1 Intensive Cream” and then layer on another light layer of moisturizer. But if you do this, make sure that you allow each layer to fully soak into the skin and dry before applying a layer. You can also use this product on your neck and hands, but following the advice of “The Budget Dermatologist” i’ve been using “Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Retinol Cream, Fragrance Free” on my neck and hands in order to maximize my cost savings. This Neutrogena product is also gentle, effective but considerably more cost-efficient. However, I have learned that the “Avene - RetrinAL 0.1 Intensive Cream” does go on sale from time to time (mainly around holidays) but the sales are a few and far between. I keep an eye on the price and order when it goes on sale to keep my supply stocked. Because remember, consistency is key with any long-term skin care routine. I hope this information helps. My research led me to Avene Retrinal as being an exceptional fast acting and high concentration of OTC retinal. This has left my 57 year old skin hydrated, radiant, and looking and feeling smooth. You will notice a light "sensation" when you after you first apply it as a testament to its high concentration. Yup, it's excellent!

The best retinol. I have been using this brand for about 3 years. It is gentle yet effective. Love the feel of it on my skin.

I'm 55 with olive skin that is combo but mostly dry with alittle breakthrough oil on my t zone. I've been using LilyAna Naturals Retinol Cream Moisturizer with some success but did some research and found that Retinaldehyde is one step closer as a precursor and is more affective that Retinol. So decided to spend the money and give this a try. I have large pores on my T zone with some age spots and hormal chin acne. I wanted smoother skin, even tone and something to control my ance in ONE product. I believe I might have found my answer with this product. I honestly saw results after ONE use! I have used this product nightly after washing and toning my face, neck and chest area for 5 days and the results are very impressive. My skin is smoother, acne drying up and a plus is the loose crepy skin under my eyes is now firm! I used to have this pesty little bags under my eyes and now they are smooth. Hoping for the continued success in the future. Only downside for me is the cost but if it works, I'm willing to make the investment. After all it's one product for all my skin care needs instead of using several. I really like that. I'm also hoping the bottle doesn't give me too much of a problem and that I will be able to get maximum use of all the contents.

I wish I'd thought to take a 'before' photo - I have been using this product since Dec 14th and I really noticed changes today (Dec 31st) when at the bathroom mirror just after getting out of bed. I purchased it for forehead lines, 11s, and 'smoker's lines' -- all have decreased noticeably, especially the 11s. I am 53 & have gotten botox (forehead/11s) probably 12 times over seven or eight years -- I love it but because of cost, I have never been able to keep on the regular recommended schedule. This is really working well and after only three weeks. I have been using it morning AND night with no redness/sensitivity; if your skin tolerates it well, I think applying it twice a day is key. As just about every review has mentioned, I don't love the packaging. There's no way you're ever going to get all of it out of the container. At this price point, it should be in a jar so you don't waste any. I'll keep using it and plan to subscribe but if the manufacturer is checking this page, please LISTEN - put this in a jar or at the very least, a plastic tube that we can cut open as it runs low. This bottle is poor customer service.

I’m writing 2 reviews, one for the product, and one for the dispenser. The reviews combined average it to 3 stars. I can’t justify 5 stars on the serum itself if the product as a whole doesn’t work. Product makers LISTEN to your customers when they say the dispenser is AWFUL. Product review: I have used prescription retinol over the course of many years. It’s expensive. I’m an older woman, and yes I have wrinkles. Many in fact. This product is still expensive for my budget, but cheaper than a prescription that insurance won’t pay for. I started using a couple weeks ago at night. I didn’t think anything was happening so I used for 5 consecutive nights. Whoa… On Saturday I had some burning on my cheeks and chin. Ha! It was working. Sane way my skin would react to prescription retinol! I cut back to three nights. In the morning I use Origins Ginzing energizing gel with niacinamide. Sometimes I feel a tingle in the morning when I apply the gel which I hadn’t before I started using the Avene. I’ve never been consistent with my skin care routine. I’m going to try and keep with this consistently for 3 months. Dispenser review: Initially I thought why are people complaining, it works great. I dropped my hairbrush which bumped the bottle, and the bottle fell on the floor. The bottom outside plastic shell cracked, and the dispenser (with plastic cover lid on) popped off. I learned 2 things. The top of the dispenser couldn’t be popped back on making it unusable. However, I also learned that as the product is used, the bottom moves up resulting in the bottle becoming top heavy. It wants to tip over. Use it. Put it away. Don’t keep in on the counter. I’m going to put what I can in travel containers by pushing the product from the bottom out into the containers. What a mess.
