This is probably one of the best whole bean coffees we’ve had—and we’ve had some of the expensive fancy ones. What impresses me is how thick and creamy the crema is and it’s not even an advertised feature. The picture I’ve shown isn’t even the espresso setting. It’s just the regular coffee setting and it gives piles of crema!

Hills Bros. Dark Satin whole bean is a Superb cup of coffee. Very flavorful when drinking it black. Good Value, and would never have found it without Amazon. I heartily recommend!

I was hoping, as I always do, that Dark Satin was truly "dark" in the way that Starbucks French or Italian roasts are dark...but it's not. It's as if Mrs. Olson stopped by and added a bit of Folgers to your French -- it's darker than a sharp stick in the eye, but it's not dark enough (for me). That said, it's drinkable. It's bolder than Folgers (my grandma's lifelong choice), and it has a couple of decent flavor nuances. When mixed 50-50 with Trader Joe's French Roast Decaf, it's okay. By itself, the finish is a bit too bright and citrussy for me, someone who loves a cup that finishes with "notes of caramel and chocolate." Unlike my last test batch of Lavazza and Community coffees, it will NOT go straight into the composter... Unlike many, I like a black, oily bean, nearly burnt to a crisp. This is not oily and not black. Quality seems good, as is the packaging (by the manufacturer, NOT Amazon). Note: I am a self-educated / self-uneducated wanna-be coffee snob. I love a really dark coffee doctored with heavy cream and Stevia. Real Italians might yell at me. You might, too!

Good everyday coffee for a good price when on sale, but bags keep breaking open during shipping. This is the third time I have received whole bean coffee from Amazon scattered all over the inside and outside of the shipping box.
