I love this!
This Daruma is awesome! For people that are giving this bad reviews let me explain something to you: There are two types of Darumas. Wishing Daruma: These come with no eyes. The reason for this is because you color them in. You first set a goal that you would like to accomplish, when you think of a goal you then color one eye as a reminder of you promise to the Daruma that you will one day complete that goal (It also looks like the Daruma is winking at you). When you complete that goal, you then color in the other eye as a reminder of your success. Luck Daruma: These Darumas have their eyes already colored in and these Darumas grant you luck. You place the Daruma somewhere you can see him and where he can see you (As a sign of respect) and he (In return) will grant you good luck. So now you know the different types of Darumas. If you are looking for a wishing Daruma, then this is NOT what you are looking for. However if you ARE looking for a luck Daruma then this IS the one for you. Now on to the review. This Daruma is very well sculpted and painted. The Daruma has a nice and even stand for you to place it on a dresser or table and it is much larger than I thought it would be (I am happy about that! :)). I like the size and everything about this. This Daruma isn't made with paper mache, instead it's made with high quality wood (As the stand) and (I think) very hard plastic for the body although it could be wood too!. If you are looking for a nice sized Daruma with high quality materials then WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??!! Get this NOW!

Cute good luck item.
Got three one for myself and two for my son's houses. Makes a good conversation starter. Note these with eyes already painted in are good luck darumas, not wish darumas (which have blank eyes).

Well made
Very nice, well made, colors are bold. Nice size, about the size of a baseball.

This is not make of paper
In Japan this is made of paper, but this one is made in China with resin - plastic type material. My bad for not reading the detail. Exceptionally pretty. Impotant for some the material, google it.

Fair warning - Does not return to upright if toppled over
This is a very nicely crafted doll, however if you are looking for the style that when toppled over return to the upright position, this is not what you are looking for. I ended up returning it for that reason, since part of why I wanted the doll was the reminder of resilience and to see it "bounce back" when knocked down. Otherwise, it is a nice piece of decoration and a visual reminder of the ancient teaching and luck.
