NOT AN EXPIRATION DATE
The date on the bottom is NOT an expiration date. I thought it was but then looked it up on the manufacturers website. The first set of numbers is the production date. It's YYMMDD. AR1 or AR2 means it was repackaged. So, mine was first made on 01/07/23. The second date on the bottom is the repacking date. They make big batches, ship them, then repack them in smaller containers. The reason they use a production date rather than an expiration date is because brewers tend to want fresher malt extract to control the flavor profile of their beers. The real expiration date is about 2 years after the first production date. My expiration date is 01/07/25.

Good Product
Gravity is about right. Of course there are always a ton of variables to take into consideration for your particular brew. This was just right for my recipe. Good color; and the wide mouth makes getting a lot of the lme out with a bit of warm wort easy.

Great for baking too
I no longer make beer, but use this extract as a substitute for malt sugar in bagels.. It is easier to use, has great flavor and does not absorb moisture from the air. The only issue is the foil seal which means the container can't be microwaved to make the extract more pourable.

Great malt syrup for baking.
I use this for making bagels (not brewing). It's super high quality and costs a fraction of what the same thing does when it's marketed as "malt syrup".

Briess Maly Extracts
I've been brewing for several years and I've always found the Briess malt extracts to be consistently well flavored and good for their price. While I've tried other brands, Briess tends to have the best variety of extracts, and always has a deep flavor.

Don’t waste your time or money
I purchased this in June 2021. The use by date is July 2020. I have another flavor coming and will return it on principle. What a rip off. I guess it will take someone getting sick and suing them before they stop this BS. Update: While I couldn’t return the product, Amazon was kind enough to replace it. The replacement had also expired in Jan 2021. I have ordered 3 of these, and gotten 1 replacement. Every single one of them has been expired. Not Amazon’s fault but I won’t ever buy this brand again. You shouldn’t either.
