Our Grandson's face lit up when he opened up this train. "Oh! That's what I've always wanted!" It works well and you can take that as the truth from a very happy four year old. Trains are very big right now and Thomas and Friends are everywhere from books to T.V. It seems to be made well and moves along the track with the help of the batteries which cannot be removed by a child. It takes a screwdriver to open the train's little space for batteries. This is a good idea because a certain little brother might get a loose battery into his mouth if they were accessable. So it seems to be a great toy. We played with it on the floor without a track too. On the floor it goes pretty fast. But of course the track is best. It was a good addition to his train collection.

This train moves much faster than I expected. It's a lot of fun for the kids. It works on carpet too, not just the train tracks. You really need to be careful using this toy around younger kids though. It's definitely an entanglement hazard when it comes to hair. And the wheels have a pinch point. Just use common sense and your kids will be just fine playing with it.

This James train is great! My son absolutely love all of his motorized trains. They stay on the tracks well as long as he does not lean on or bump the track to much. The train can even jump the track with the tender attached. They really make for lots of fun. We pulled out his tracks for his birthday party and the trains were a hit and the batteries last for a very long time. He even leave them running and they still last. I 100% suggest this toys for 3yo and up! You also have to be mindful of kids with longer hair and the wheels it will get stuck in their hair!

James' splendid bright red paintwork makes him a flashy addition to the stable of engines that my granddaughter is collecting. James is a well-made addition of the line of Thomas & Friends engine. He chugs along sturdily on his battery-operated motor, and his bright red paint really makes him stand out in the train barn. James, and the other engines, get so much play time that we decided to invest in rechargeable batteries and a charger. Now the trains can be kept running all the time> Fisher Price toys are always well made and offer great play value, and this train is no exception.

My son is obsessed with the Thomas the Tank engine series and this purchase only served to increase that. I originally purchased James the red engine from Target a while back and he absolutely adored that one. We bought Gordon for his birthday and he now plays with this one daily. The motorized feature of this train is driven by double AA batteries. You flick a white switch on and the train goes. It’s best on hardwood floors as carpet can be a bit frustrating, and this engine remarkably goes in a straight line. Battery life is good enough. We have owned this now for about 3 months and have yet to replace the batteries. The trains do slow down as the battery life winds down which is only natural. In closing, great gift/toy at the price point it is. Perfect introduction to trains for little kids under 3. Far from complex and easy to use, your kid will love the simplicity of this gift especially if she or he is into the Thomas the Tank Engine series.

Bought this for my nephews and they love it! My one nephew didn't even want to let go of the box so my sister could open it! Great quality, but a bit smaller than I expected. This is no big deal and we will probably be adding on more later. The train and car come apart easily and my nephew kept coming over for me to put it back together. Runs great on tile or wood, but naturally it does not run on carpet. My sister appreciated the hassle free packaging!

Seems pretty durable!! Haven’t tried it with batteries yet as I want them to use them to actually play with instead of staring at mostly and want them to make their own sounds!! They flick the switch, act confused for a bit, then they’re fine and happy with it!!

Happy 3 year old, goes nicely with his Thomas collection! Not inexpensive, but are good detail and made of quality die cast metal. Keep in mind these are quite a bit larger than the die cast Adventures series, and are plastic and run on 2 AAAs. Loves his new Thomas so much he takes him to bed every night!

Had to order this online because there is none to be found in the stores, it's made well and it does take batteries so if you don't want to have to constantly replace them I would not get it but if you don't mind then it's a good quality made toy and the colors are so bright.
