High quality, bio-available form of magnesium from reputable company; Great value for the price; Highly recommended
Out of all the supplements I take, magnesium is the one that I'm most confident has a definite positive impact on my health. If you just read about all the things that magnesium is responsible for regulating in our bodies, it's pretty incredible. Combine that with the fact that many, many people don't get nearly enough magnesium due to its depletion from the food sources we traditionally obtained it from and the crappy diet of the average person in Western society and it's no wonder that so many people experience many symptoms of magnesium deficiency. In my case specifically, I've had trouble falling and staying asleep ever since I was young. Even as a fit and overall healthy teenager who played several sports and had a health-conscious mom I remember lying awake for hours many nights, unable to fall asleep. Worse, many times after I did get to sleep I would wake up constantly throughout the night and never achieve the deeper sleep that's so important for our brains. I can't count the number of times I went to school feeling tired, and how often I had to fight to keep my eyes open during class. This continued on into my adult years until recently, after I developed an interest in nutrition and began researching it in my spare time as a hobby. After reading learning about magnesium's role in our body and how often people don't get enough of it (and specifically how important it is for sleep quality) I began supplementing it and immediately noticed results. When I take a high quality magnesium supplement I'm able to fall asleep much more easily and I sleep MUCH more soundly throughout the night. It's really, really easy to prove anecdotally, in my case. On days that I take magnesium I sleep better. Whenever I don't sleep as well, I can invariably trace it back to forgetting my supplements the day before. Now, the most important part of all this (in my opinion): taking a HIGH-QUALITY magnesium supplement. This is where you have to be careful. Bio-availability is critical when supplementing vitamins and minerals. If your body can't absorb what you're taking, you're not going to benefit and it can actually have negative side effects. For instance, several forms of magnesium (often the cheapest to produce and therefore the ones that get used in low-quality supplements) are actually used as laxatives. It's important to take magnesium in a form your body can readily absorb and which won't cause gastric issues. The forms of magnesium used in this product, magnesium glycinate and magnesium malate, are two of the more bio-available forms and are also gentle on the stomach. I've previously taken the slow-release magnesium supplement from Jigsaw, which is also terrific. However, it's quite a bit more expensive than InnovixLabs' magnesium and I haven't experienced the slow-release mechanism to actually make a difference. I also like this product specifically because I feel that InnovixLabs/OmegaVia are a trustworthy company that produces high quality supplements. I've used their fish oil in the past and take their Vitamin K-2 supplement regularly. One of their co-founders, Vin Kutty, writes very informative and well-sourced nutrition and supplement-related blog posts on the OmegaVia website that have been extremely useful to me in my pursuit of nutrition information. I have a lot of confidence in the quality of their products due to how much effort Mr. Kutty puts into freely sharing his extensive knowledge, and his obvious passion for evidence-based nutrition and health science. Overall, I think that magnesium is one of the supplements that almost everyone should consider taking, and there's a lot of supporting evidence for this if you care to look. I trust InnovixLabs to produce quality products, and have had very good results with this one specifically. It makes a noticeable difference in the quality of my sleep. My wife has long had issues with muscle cramps and minor restless-leg symptoms during the night (both potential signs of low magnesium levels). Since she began taking magnesium supplements those issues have completely ceased. I highly recommend this product. -------------------------- Update with some more anecdotal evidence: Since I wrote this review both my parents have begun taking magnesium as well. My dad takes a lower-quality brand you can find in supermarkets and my mom takes this specific product. They've both experienced very positive results in a short period of time. My dad goes for long runs/hikes in some foothills near their house. He was constantly getting horrible muscle cramps during or after he got home. After he mentioned this to me I recognized it as a common issue associated with lack of magnesium and suggested he test a supplement out just to see if anything changed. He went and bought one of the more widely-known brands from a nearby store and since starting to take it hasn't experienced a single cramp. My mom had similar sleep issues to mine and also had just read about the benefits of magnesium and chronic lack of it in most peoples' diets. She asked me for a recommendation for a brand to try and I suggested this one. She noticed immediate positive effects in her sleep quality and overall feeling of energy since starting. So, totally anecdotal but I still highly recommend magnesium supplementation in general and this product specifically.

High quality and affordable
After a year of consistent use, I can confidently say that this supplement has exceeded my expectations. This product is fantastic in terms of quality and affordability. It's been a game-changer for me! With 200 mg of Elemental Magnesium per 2-caps serving, it provides exactly what I need. One of the standout features of this supplement is its high absorption rate due to the combination of magnesium glycinate and magnesium malate, maximizing its effectiveness. Doesn’t hurt my stomach or cause any discomfort. Glycine, found in Magnesium Glycinate, has been linked to deep and restorative sleep. Research suggests that magnesium glycinate can help promote a steady state of relaxation, which explains why my sleep has been off the charts lately. I actually tracked my sleep patterns for two whole months, and I noticed a significant increase in the amount of time I spent in deep sleep levels. The mag malate and frequent baths with Epson Salts have help with muscle soreness. The affordability, high quality, and optimal dosage of Elemental Magnesium make it an excellent value.

This combination has good bioavailability and does not have a laxative effect since ...
Magnesium is important, see below for more detail. Deducted 1 star as it is a bit pricey. I bought it has it has two forms of Mg and they both benefit differently. Magnesium Glycinate: Glycine is a well-known calming amino acid. This combination has good bioavailability and does not have a laxative effect since glycine is actively transported through the intestinal wall. Due to the calming and relaxing effect of both glycine and magnesium, this combination has been used successfully for chronic pain and muscle hyper tonicity. Magnesium Malate: This less well-known combination has been studied for use in fibromyalgia. Since malate is a substrate in the cellular energy cycle, it can help improve ATP production; there is some preliminary evidence that it may reduce muscle pain and tender points in fibromyalgia patients. FYI, here is the other types of Mg (not in this product): Magnesium Orotate: This is another relatively unknown chelate combination containing orotic acid. This form has good bioavailability has had been studied specifically for heart health. Orotates can penetrate cell membranes, enabling the effective delivery of the magnesium ion to the innermost layers of the cellular mitochondria and nucleus. Orotates themselves increase the formation of RNA and DNA which can help heart cells repair and therefore improve function. The combination has been shown to improve heart failure, symptoms of angina and exercise performance in clinical trials. Magnesium Taurate: Both magnesium and the amino acid taurine share the ability to improve cardiac function; each has a potentiating effect on insulin sensitivity and also a calming effect on neuromuscular excitability. The actions of both have striking similarities when it comes to cardiovascular health. They both have blood pressure reducing effects, stabilize nerve cells, improve the contraction of the heart muscle and have an anti-thrombotic effect. Additionally, low levels of vitamin B6 have been shown to further deplete both magnesium and taurine. Magnesium-L-Threonate: This form of magnesium has recently been studied to improve memory and brain function. One preliminary study in animals found that it significantly enhanced both short-term and long-term memory, boosting scores by 15% for short-term memory and 54% for long-term memory compared to magnesium citrate. Based on this study, it appears that magnesium-L-threonate is a highly absorbable form of magnesium that can improve brain function. While this research is promising, more is needed to confirm its benefit. Magnesium citrate: A commonly used form that has a good bioavailability compared to oxide. It is also very rapidly absorbed in the digestive tract but it does have a stool loosening effect.1 This form is found in many supplements and remains a solid option for delivering magnesium into the body.
