HEAVY Duty
These chains are super heavy duty and a great deterrent. High quality and long lasting.

ABUS 12ks six foot chain
This review is for the ABUS 12ks six foot chain. Very heavy and massive. The beefiest security chain I’ve ever owned. VERY heavy, possible too heavy to carry around on a bicycle. I’ll be using it to secure something stationary along with an ABUS 37ST/55 Granit padlock. I feel confident that this combo will serve its purpose. Highly recommend both chain and padlock for something that you want to keep.

Large strong chain
The chain has large links and may not be suitable for certain task such as a gate. It is suitable for locking up equipment and hopefully intimidating to thieves so they don't attempt to steal your stuff.

If you don't want your bike stolen, get this with a high-end padlock.
I had my first ever road bike stolen and vowed it will never happen again. Previously, I had used one of the OnGuard U-locks (don't remember the model name/number because I purchased it 11 years ago), and it was nowhere to be found when I realized my bike was stolen. After I bought a new road bike, I did an extensive search of the major heavy-duty locks out there. What did I find? Numerous videos of these so-called super high-security Kryptonite U-locks costing $100+ getting picked in seconds or cut in minutes, not to mention videos of all kinds of cables getting cut like butter. Combination locks are laughable. There are all kinds of marketing gimmicks out there, including thin cables surrounded by a thick layer of rubber/plastic material and anti-theft protection (there is ONE account of a successful claim through the first 4 pages of google search but who knows if that is real; FYI, you need to submit the broken/compromised lock but most thieves take the lock with the bike). After spending days researching different combinations, here is the most secure combination I have found: A heavy duty chain + padlock that cannot be easily picked. Also, a digital U-lock as an added security measure. - Heavy duty chain: There is a video on YouTube that compares different chains. 12KS is the model that was tested in the video. It takes 4-5 minutes in ideal conditions (flat on the ground, allowing a thief to use his/her entire body weight) to cut using a giant bolt cutter. I can't imagine anyone being able to cut this with a bolt cutter if it is several inches off the ground. - Padlock: Again, a quick YouTube search will reveal how easily some of these can be picked. I won't endorse any particular company, but get one that has multiple discs and is not susceptible to hacking with a bump key. The best ones appear to cost $100+. - Digital U-Lock: The concept of keyless, digital locks with thick shackles is promising. There are several different startup companies competing for the next big market. Most of them are shipping their products around September, so we will see how easy/difficult it will be to hack these. PROS: - Very, very tough - Short (makes it more difficult for thieves to maneuver) - The two squares at the ends interlock so that you can use a padlock with a very thick shackle CONS: - Heavy. 4 lbs. - Limited versatility because it is only 2'. Wish they sold a 3' one. OVERALL: Highly recommended, especially for those in SF and NYC.

Big Beefy Chain, But Very Short at 2ft so keep that in mind
This is a big, beefy, heavy-duty chain that will command respect and any would-be thief will have to spend some serious time, energy, and power tools to get through the links. On the downside, at only 2 ft long, this chain did not work for me as I need a chain that is longer, for my bike. It's heavy though, no doubt about that. This big boy weighs approximately 6.3 lbs. The lock I purchased is also a big beefy serious lock: a Xena XSU-69 with 18mm shank, that I had to purchase from the UK as it's hard to find those anywhere in the U.S. That lock does fit through the links of this chain.

Big, heavy and strong!
This security chain is really big, heavy, strong and fairly long which is what I needed but I think it's worth the money even though it's fairly expensive!

Excellent, strong and heavy chain at a very reasonable price. I like that the end link is a slightly different size to allow it to pass through the other end (so that the padlock only has to secure one chain link). It might not be THE hardest chain out there (Pewag tractor snow chain seems to be the best) but this will certainly act as a strong deterrent to most thieves. I use it with a SOBO padlock to secure by bike in my garage at home. I wouldn't want to carry it anywhere as it is not exactly portable and very heavy.

After using this chain for a while I'll update my comment. Expensive but a very nice piece of chain. The links are elongated so one end link can be fit through the other at the ends. If you want it shorter you will have to grind off the extra links. I think you will have to take to a mechanical or welding shop for that. I can wrap it around the post to get it short enough. Regular bolt cutters or hacksaw are not a threat, unless the criminal has lots of time and patience. Very tough and the cover is holding up well in the sun and rain and snow and ice. Another update. Depending on how much room you have for the chain it is possible to slip any link through the end link. I could not do this when locking a door as there was barely room to fit the chain and lock but when using it to lock something to a post I found I could pull it tight and put any link through the end link (after removing the cover which I didn't want to do unlike I damaged it) and still fit the shackle of the Abus 37/80 Granit. I would still grind off links to fit if I was only using it at that length but that isn't the only option if you have the room.
