Winter shade I purchased is buttercream for my pale warm skin tone. Exactly what I was looking for. I’m 46 and my skin has become mostly dry but after a few hours my face looks dull and has a bit too much oil under my eyes so that my eye make up can start to run buuut if I put powder under my eyes the skin becomes very wrinkly looking and too dry. (It’s a lovely phase of life.) This gel/cream -I’d call it a light cream- is as good as it gets if you want a lighter, natural coverage with moderate to nearly heavy moisturization. I can put some powder under my eyes and it stays smooth with no dryness or oiliness. This never looks cakey at all anywhere on my face. The perfect description is dewy and radiant. It minimizes redness but doesn’t cover every flaw. If full coverage is what a woman is looking for you won’t be happy with this. I like to leave some of my own complexion showing through most days so for me this coverage is perfect. I also wanted a lighter feel and a higher spf for outdoor activity. It’s excellent. Anything with spf usually burns my eyes at one point or another while wearing, ruining my day, this doesn’t at all! I seriously hope they keep making this exact formulation forever! It’s perfect the way it is. I use it nearly every morning as a moisturizer even if I’m not putting on a full face of make up and depending if I need to go anyplace later in the day and how made up I need to be I may put on another layer (which adds a little more coverage). This is the MOST usable item in my make up bag. I love it!

Why did you pick this product vs others?:I switched to a tinted moisturizer after I hit 40. I used to use a really high end, albeit wonderful brand of foundation, but it was just too thick and looked caky as I aged. I didn’t go down without a fight though, first I experimented with a plethora of other foundations. Still, I always felt like my makeup was making me look older. I’ve been told my entire life that I don’t look my age, and suddenly I felt as if I looked 10 years older, not younger. Even if I looked my age that was fine, but I didn’t want makeup aging me. It’s easy to get away with wearing a lot of makeup in your 20’s, but that’s about it.So, I watched quite a few makeup experts and they recommended using a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation. I figured I’d tried everything else. I got really lucky on the first try with Bare Minerals. It evens out my skin, but with a softer, more natural look. In fact, I’ve asked a lot of people and they’ve said they can’t even tell I have it on. As soon as I started wearing it I began getting compliments. I could go on and on about this product. It’s really made a difference in my life. If you’re unhappy with your makeup, and my guess is that if you’re reading reviews about different makeup, then you’re probably not thrilled with yours, this is a great product to give a try. It’s true you have to find the right products that work for you, but if you think about it, unless you have unbelievably honest friends, very few people will tell you that your makeup is making you look older. It’s one of those things you have to try. If you’re not in love with your makeup now, this may quite possibly be the product that will help you fall in love with it again. It most certainly made me fall in love with mine again. Let me add that I have normal skin, and I’ve never had a problem with it staying on all day unless I’m sweating profusely. I’ve never noticed any scent, it’s SPF 30, and I use the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue, Tinted Moisturizer. I looked it up and it’s Made in the USA.

Throughout my teens and early twenties, I forwent foundation completely. I have reasonably clear skin and my main focus was caring for the health of my skin. However, beginning in my late twenties, I decided that I needed something more. I started with tinted moisturizers and step up to foundations with their promise of perfect all day skin perfection. Foundations, no matter what brand I tried (even with primers and setting spray) would leave my skin looking streaky and patchy. Applying loose powder over it, would make it cakey and settle in my pores. So I stepped back into the tinted moisturizer game. So far, this is winning. It’s important to me that it have a strong SPF. It goes on light and evenly. Though I have used a brush in the past to apply foundations, I think that this goes on best when applied with my fingertips. It goes on smooth. It is not sticky. It doesn’t make my fingers feel slimy. There is not bad smell. It is very sheer and minimally buildable. With a second application, it brightens and evens my skin tones and decreases the noticeability of a couple of dark spots. But it does not completely cover them. If you are looking for full coverage, this is not for you. It has a dewy finish which is not my favorite but I know it’s the thing right now. I just make sure to apply powder after initially using the product that then touch it up a couple times a day with a repeat powder.As for the color, I am super pale and typically order ivory in my makeups. Without a guide available, I took a chance and ordered vanilla. It works fine. Has warm yellow undertones so if your skin is more cool tones, probably try the opal shade. Mine falls somewhere in between so I think I could maybe where either.

Really good if you don't want to look like you have makeup on. Smooths over skin easily.
