Vic Firth American Classic 85A

I love these sticks when I need a little extra oomph. The round tip provides a great tone on both clear and coated heads but mixed results on ride cymbals (they sound great on my Zildjian 21" Sweet Ride but not so good on my K Custom Brilliant Ride.)They feel nice in the hand with a nice heft and balance without being too big or heavy. Coming from a marching band background, I feel very at home with these sticks, way more so that with most sticks designed for the drum set. My primary sticks are the Vic Firth Extreme 5A and these 3As are the perfect compliment when I really need or want to hit hard!

I've played 5As for almost 45 years, but I always wanted to play 5Bs for more power with less effort. But 5Bs were always too big for my hands. Now these weren't around back in the day so I stuck with 5A. But now these are made and what a very nice compromise. Not too big, not too heavy, just right.I don't know if I got lucky or maybe Vic Firth's QC is better now, but I have never ordered sticks online... I always bought them in the store so I could roll them and pitch pair them. Usually out of a case, at least 3-4 pairs would be warped or very different pitches. Yeah, I'm picky. But I took a chance, and these sticks were very well pitch-matched and dead straight!There are a couple of other new Vic sticks that I want to try that are in this ballpark, but I think I am definitely going to be switching to this stick, love them!

Seller shipped quickly, which was great at this time because my so needed the sticks to do his band work at home. My son says the sticks are great and he loves the black ones. He's only one with that color in school. If I ever need any again, definitely will be back here to purchase again. Thanks.

Highly recommend. Although an experienced musician, I am a beginning drummer. These were recommended to me by a pro and I can easily see why. Comfortable weight . even distribution. Nice sticks!

I'm a beginner, so I'm not overly versed in sticks, but I've tried these and Vater 5As and 5Bs. These are good quality sticks and a great starting point until you figure out what you like.

the product description on amazon & on the nylon package reads 5A but the sticks themselves don't have any type on them & the sticks feel more like a 5B stick overall I didn't return them b'cos I wanted to just use them for the fun of it they're heavier & thicker than a 5A stick so they might help in building endurance, I also posted some pictures to try to compare them to other sticks I have had before to make my point, but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone never!!!! especially the supplier they don't seem genuine.

A little longer than 5A... You can feel a difference in the balance point. Something to try for yourself. Hickory is great for durable rim shot. I prefer oak for the easier rebound.
