Beautifully Illustrated, Great reference
When I was writing articles on Fossils, this was my favorite book I would use from the Library. I must have checked it out 10 times. I fell in love with this book, I finally decided to purchase my own. The illustrations are phenomenal. The layout and design very pleasing, and the information is easy to understand and follow.A coffee table-type book, it contains 248 pages of beautifully illustrated information, including sections on Fossils and Fossil Hunting, Directory of Fossils (which contains sub sections on Microfossils, Plants, Animals (Vertebrates and Invertebrates),and Glossary. It contains a detailed Table of Contents and Index.I really enjoyed the detail they went into identifying over 375 plant and animal fossils, using over 950 photographs and illustrations. This is a must have for the fossil lover - whether novice to expert. Makes a great reference book for kids, too, but it is such a nice book, you may want to keep it to yourself.

Great reference book on a variety of fossils.
I was looking for a book to identify the numerous fossils found on my property. This book was a great resource for identifying what they were & when they existed.

Good generalized book
I bought this book to help with identifying a few fossils I've found and own. I appreciate the large catalog of fossils and the ease of navigation. However I wish the book foucused more on the identification aspect. A large part of the beginning of the book just foucuses on how fossils are made rather than the fossils themselves. While I appreciate learning more, id rather learn about the actual organism. It had an impressive amount of invertebrates, but was really lacking when it came to vertibrates and land based animals. I understand most people aren't going to run across therapod fossils, but that doesn't mean I dont want to see and learn more.
