**Q: how often does the color change?**
A: It changes around every 7~8 inches. 
The solid color continues for 5&1/2 to 6 inches as Elliano answered.  I attached the photo to the product description.

**Q: Can you separate the strands like with DMC floss?**
A: No.

**Q: Is it really pastel ?**
A: I wouldn’t call it pastel really. If you are looking for light, soft pastel tones this isn’t it. This is more bright. The colors are beautiful though. Hope this helps.
