Review: Exceptional Quality Omnivore Diet: A Deep Dive into Exotic Nutrition’s Berries & Bugs - Finding a high-quality, biologically appropriate diet for exotic omnivorous pets can be a massive challenge. Most standard pet store foods are filled with generic fillers that don’t meet the specific high-protein and high-fiber needs of animals like hedgehogs, sugar gliders, or opossums. I purchased the Exotic Nutrition Berries & Bugs (1.5 lb bag) looking for a nutrient-dense, natural option, and after consistently incorporating it into the feeding routine, I am thoroughly impressed with the quality and results. Ingredient Quality & Nutritional Profile The primary reason I chose this specific blend is its impressive ingredient list. It perfectly balances animal-based proteins with natural fruits. The inclusion of real dried insects (like black soldier fly larvae, mealworms, and crickets) provides the essential chitin and protein that insectivores and omnivores crave and need for optimal digestion. Combining that with the antioxidant benefits of real cranberries and blueberries makes this a powerhouse formula. It is entirely all-natural with no artificial colors, flavors, or dangerous preservatives, which gives me incredible peace of mind as a pet owner. Texture, Scent, and Palatability Right out of the bag, you can tell this is a premium mix. The texture offers a fantastic variety of crunchy kibble bits, whole dried insects, and pieces of fruit. This variety is excellent for foraging animals because it provides mental stimulation during mealtime rather than just a boring, uniform pellet. The scent is naturally earthy and slightly sweet from the berries, which immediately catches the pet's attention. In terms of palatability, it was an instant hit. There was absolutely no hesitation, and even picky eaters will find the mix of textures highly enticing. They tend to pick out the bugs first, but the entire bowl gets cleared. Health Benefits and Physical Results Since introducing this food, the physical health benefits have been highly noticeable. The high-protein content supports lean muscle mass and excellent energy levels, while the balanced fiber helps maintain perfect digestive health and solid stool quality (which is a massive plus for keeping enclosures clean). Additionally, the healthy fats and nutrients in the black soldier fly larvae have done wonders for coat and quill health, leaving them looking vibrant, shiny, and incredibly healthy. Packaging and Value for Money At $15.99 for a 1.5-pound bag, this product offers phenomenal value for money. Because it is so nutrient-dense, you do not need to feed massive quantities at a time, meaning a single bag lasts a very long time. The packaging features a heavy-duty, resealable ziplock top that actually works, keeping the dried bugs and berries completely fresh and preventing any moisture from getting inside. Final Verdict Exotic Nutrition has a stellar reputation for a reason, and the Berries & Bugs formula completely lives up to the hype. It bridges the gap between convenient kibble and a wild, natural diet perfectly. Whether you are using it as a primary diet or a high-reward nutritional supplement, it is worth every single penny. I highly recommend it to any exotic pet owner looking to elevate their animal's nutrition and wellness.
