MYRRH BENEFITS
RESEARCH ON ESSENTIAL OIL OF MYRRH Sue Ross, MPA 2-26-17 draxe.com 1.Potent Antioxidant- A 2010 study in the journal of Food and Chemical Toxicology found that myrrh could protect against liver damage due to its high antioxidant capacity. 2.Anti-Cancer Benefits - Myrrh has also been found to have anti-cancer benefits. A 2011 found that myrrh was able to reduce the proliferation or replication of human cancer cells. Researchers found that myrrh inhibited growth in eight different types of cancer cells, specifically gynecological cancers. Although further research is needed to determine exactly how to use myrrh for cancer treatment, this initial research is promising. 3.Anti-Bacterial and Anti-Fungal Benefits - Historically, myrrh was used to treat wounds and prevent infections. It can still be used in this manner on minor skin irritations such as athlete’s foot, ring worm, and acne. Apply a few drops to a clean towel first before applying it directly to the skin. 4.Anti-Parasitic - A medication has been developed using myrrh as a treatment for fascioliasis infection, a parasite that has been infecting humans worldwide. This parasite is generally transmitted by ingesting aquatic algae and other plants. A medication made with myrrh was able to decrease symptoms of the infection, as well as a drop in parasite egg count found in the feces. 5.Skin Health -Myrrh can help maintain healthy skin. It can help soothe chapped or cracked skin. It is commonly added to skin care products to help with moisturizing and also for fragrance. Ancient Egyptians used it to prevent aging and maintain healthy skin. 6.Relaxation-Myrrh is commonly used in aromatherapy for massages. It can also be added to a warm bath or applied directly to the skin. 7.Relief for Upper Respiratory Problems - It can work as an expectorant to help relieve the symptoms of coughs and cold. It can be used to relieve congestion and help reduce phlegm. 8. Decrease in Digestive Problems - Another myrrh oil use is to help relieve digestive problems such as stomach upset, diarrhea, and indigestion. 9. Helps Prevent Gum Disease and Mouth Infections - Due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, myrrh can help relieve inflammation of the mouth and gums caused by diseases such as gingivitis and mouth ulcers. It can also be used as mouth rinse to prevent gum disease. It can also freshen your breath and commonly used as an ingredient in mouthwash and toothpaste. 10. Helps Treat Hypothyroidism - Myrrh is a natural remedy for hypothyroidism, or a low functioning thyroid. Since it helps reduce stress, it can also help decrease stress on an overtaxed thyroid. Put 2-3 drops directly onto the thyroid area daily to help decrease symptoms. 11. May Help Treat Skin Cancer - As discussed above, myrrh is being studied for its potential anti-cancer benefits. It has been shown to be beneficial for skin cancer. Consider using it in addition to other traditional treatments, if you have been diagnosed with skin cancer. Apply a few drops per day directly on to the cancer site, always testing a small area first. Myrrh can help strengthen the body’s cells by acting as an astringent. It was used traditionally to help stop bleeding. Due to its astringent effects, it may also help prevent hair loss by strengthening the roots in the scalp. 12. Treatment for Ulcers and Wounds - Myrrh has the power to increase the function of white blood cells, critical for wound healing. It was found to decrease the incidence of ulcers and improve their healing time, in one 2010 study published in the Journal of Immunotoxicology. A primary myrrh oil use is as a fungicide or antiseptic. It can help reduce fungal infections such as athlete’s foot or ring worm, when applied directly to the affected area. It can also be used on small scrapes and wounds to prevent infection. Myrrh Side Effects - Myrrh does have some side effects that need to be considered before using it therapeutically. As always, it is best to speak to your doctor or trusted healthcare provider first. Since one of the most common myrrh oil uses is topical, people with sensitive skin should be cautious. Myrrh has been found to cause dermatitis, or inflammation of the skin, in some people. Always test it first in a small area before applying it all over the skin to make sure you don’t have any allergic reaction. If taken internally, myrrh may cause stomach upset and diarrhea. Although it is generally not serious, chronic diarrhea can lead do dehydration, so discontinue its use if you are experiencing gastrointestinal problems. Pregnant women should avoid taking myrrh because it may enhance uterine contractions. Another potential side effect of myrrh is heart irregularities and lowered blood pressure, although this is mostly seen at high doses of more than 2-4 grams per day. Anyone with a medical condition related to the heart should ask a doctor before using myrrh oil. Myrrh may lower blood sugar, therefore it is not recommended for people with diabetes or other blood sugar conditions. Since it interacts with blood glucose it is also not recommended for people undergoing surgery and it is best to stop its use at least 2 weeks before surgery. Myrrh oil is not recommended for people using anticoagulants such as Warfarin as it may have potential interactions with this medication. It is also not recommended for people on diabetes medication, as there is a potential for a drug interaction.

Excellent Essential Oils, Excellent Company!
This company truly proves that you don't have to spend copious amounts of money to purchase good quality essential oils! For the longest time I fell into the "Therapeutic Grade" marketing ploy a lot of companies use to jack up the prices of their essential oils. These companies are making a killing in profits from unsuspecting consumers who don't realize that ALL essential oils are therapeutic, and that there is absolutely NO organization on this entire planet that "certifies" essential oils as to what level of therapeutic value they have! The only certification an essential oil can rightfully claim is if it's certified organic, but other than that, most people are over-spending on marketing jargon & claims that are not supported by the FDA, or any "essential oil organization" that doesn't exist! Finally becoming aware of this, I started purchasing my essential oils from this company & couldn't be happier! Not only are the prices NOT overly inflated, but the products are wonderful! The Neroli in particular, smells like bottled heaven- EXACTLY like the Orange blossoms my tree in the back yard smell like, & does WONDERFULLY in my cold process soaps! I make large batches & have no use for over-priced, tiny 5ml bottles, so this company has been a great solution for me. I'm able to purchase larger quantities of my essential oils without breaking the bank, and the quality is excellent! The finished product is always a wonderfully skin-nourishing bar of soap that smells fantastic, and I'm able to pass MY savings on down to my customers as well- a total win-win! Highly recommend this essential oil, as well as all the others this company provides. My only wish was that they offered Indian or Hawaiian Sandalwood, other than just Australian. Australian Sandalwood is cheap because it pales in comparison (in regards to quality & therapeutic properties) to the Hawaiian or Indian varieties, but it's understandable that they would only carry Australian, since Indian and Hawaiian Sandalwood are EXPONENTIALLY more expensive (sometimes valued up to $200 an ounce- YIKES!!!). If you're worried less about the medicinal properties though & just love the smell of Sandalwood in general, then the Australian Sandalwood this company provides will not fail to please the olfactory senses! All in all, I was very happy with this particular product (as well as all the others I've purchased from them), and with this whole company in general! Thank you for offering great quality essential oils WITHOUT the marketing hype & subsequent inflated prices! It's a good, honest company that doesn't take advantage of their customers! Will purchase again and again as needed!

Not thrilled...at first... updated review
This review encompasses not just the lavender, but a few other Sun Essential Oils... I ordered Joy, lavender, peppermint, frankincense to start...they arrived today much to my delight. This is my first time trying Sun; I make soap as well as my own oil blends, so I'm familiar with essential oils and have used many different brands such as Young Living (which I find horribly overpriced due to their MLM) and Bulk Apothecary. At any rate, I go through oil pretty quickly, so was curious if these puppies would be a good go-to for an inexpensive oil. Sadly my first experience with Sun Essential Oils is off to a rocky beginning... the sealed peppermint oil leaked in the box with roughly 2 teaspoons of oil missing due to the leak. This didn't upset me too much - these things happen, and I didn't pay a lot for the large 4 oz bottle. I opened the bottle & am not real thrilled with the scent - it almost has a petroleum-like smell to it, not the pure "shock" of good peppermint oil. Okay, I'll use this in soap, hope for the best, and use the rest for keeping mice at bay. Next, I opened the Joy. As other reviewers have noted, it is far more weak than the original YL Joy blend. FAR weaker... take heed! Used topically, the scent is barely there and disappears quickly. With potent oils such as ylang-ylang & jasmine, you'd expect it to be quite strong. It definitely doesn't feel or smell like a pure oil blend... there HAS to be a carrier in there someplace. On a positive note, I poured some into my diffuser and it's very nice... however, I used way more than the usual 5 or 6 drops. The lavender: does not have that "softness" that a pure lavender should have... it too has almost a petroleum undertone to it. This makes me sad. How can you screw up lavender??! I have yet to try the frank, but my expectations are low at this point. Another thing that bothers me, and apparently many others: the bottles do not have a regulator/dropper. They DO include a pipette, BUT the dang thing is too big for the box so it arrives all bent from being forced into the box rendering it useless (due to breakage where it was folded). My suggestions to the company... If you are using a carrier, say so. I'm in no way an EO expert, and even I can tell these are not 100% pure essential oils. Please provide droppers in your bottles and stop cramming a pipette into a too-small box. I really wanted to like this product but I don't think I'll be ordering this brand again. There is a reason for the low price tag... you get what you pay for. --- UPDATE: Sun Essentials responded and I upped the rating from 3 to 4 stars. They're customer service is AMAZING. They offered to replace the peppermint that leaked (I declined), and sent a new Joy & lavender, which arrived very quickly. The replacement lavender is 100% better; I will buy again. However, sadly... the Joy is still less than joyful. The scent is very weak & texture is very greasy. The frankincense? Couldn't be happier! That one turned out to be my favorite - I use it in face serums & neat, topically, and will purchase again. They also sent two new pipettes, packaged much better to where they were curved, and not crammed in & creased. Thank you, Sun, for your fabulous customer service! After this experience, I will try more of your EOs.

Smells great - use for aromatherapy!
I was at a pharmacy a month ago and there was the most intoxicating aroma of peppermint in the air. When I asked about it, the clerk showed me a medicine bottle that had a couple cotton balls that were saturated with peppermint oil. It was enough to give the storefront lobby that nice scent. I bought this oil thinking it would do the same thing, but it doesn't. I don't know if the essential oil concentration level is low, but this is not a very fragrant oil. I used half the bottle to saturate six cotton facial pads and put them in a small glass. I can only smell the scent if I put my nose right up next to the glass. So much for using this to scent even tiny areas in my home. Oh well. UPDATE 2/4/17: Shortly after my review was posted, the seller sent an email that said: "I would like to thank you for taking the time to post your review. I am sorry that the bottle of Peppermint did not have a strong scent. All of our Essential Oils are 100% Pure Therapeutic Grade. However, we do know that temperature and storage may affect the Essential Oils and this may be what happened to your bottle. We strive for 100% Customer Satisfaction so I would like the opportunity to resolve this issue for you right away. You may find that you have better luck using the Essential Oils in a diffuser opposed to just a bottle. I have included the information listed below and I have requested that a new bottle be shipped out to you today free of charge. We are shipping from Arizona so it may take just a few days for you to receive it. I would like to follow up with you in a couple of weeks to make sure you received the new shipment." I had not asked for anything from the seller nor did I expect anything, so I was pleasantly surprised that 1) they actually read posted reviews and 2) they sincerely believe in making their customers happy. I received a new bottle of oil a few days after their initial email. In the meantime, I purchased a diffuser per Cathi's (the seller's) suggestion. I tried it for the first time yesterday and am very pleased with the results. I changed my review from three stars to five stars and am so pleased these sellers truly believe in excellent customer service. I could not be happier!

My go to brand for essential oils
Looking through the reviews I'm stunned, I have bought 5 bottles of this in the past 2 years, it's perfect, I also have bought their tea tree oil, clove, and lavender, each is perfect!! I buy the most of lemongrass oil to repel wasps from my front porch because they seem to enjoy building nests out there, a few drops on cotton balls placed where I see them hovering and near my windows and they find somewhere else to build. As for the scent not lasting or being strong? I can literally smell it 2 weeks after I put the cotton balls at the corner of the trim on my front door, it's plenty strong and lasts well. I don't suggest using it in diffusers, I tried putting a couple drops in a warmer and nearly died, the scent was too strong!! It went throughout my entire house and while it smelled great, it was a bit much!! It was also fantastic in massage oil mixed with vanilla oil and a few others. People need to realize this is real, not fake and if you can't tell the difference you've got issues. And... Diffusing essential oils is BAD for your health. SMH.

Not The 'Good Stuff' but not terrible either.
Admittedly a self-proclaimed Patchouli essential oil aficionado (snob) having tried myriad Patchouli Oil products over the course of 50 years. This isn't the 'good stuff'. It isn't terrible. It's a nice very very light and extremely mild Patchouli scent. They're using Triethyl Citrate (derived from Citric Acid and Ethyl Alcohol) as a carrier. Prior to this, the last time I bought SUN Patchouli Oil was back in 1977 when the bottle still had the wooden cap. It was pretty good back then. The current product doesn't compare; or possibly I've gotten used to purer more robust (and costly) Patchouli Essential Oils (memory is a funny thing) In either case at least it's relatively inexpensive.
