The Best Headset Available on the Market but Have the Right Expectations
This headset is not perfectly perfect in every way but it is the best that you can buy. This is the only headset in the Plantronics lineup listed as having "premium" quality sound. It is Plantronics' flagship headset. Plantronics is the industry leader in earpiece headsets. If you are looking for the highest-quality headset you can buy, look no more. You have come to the right page. The primary complaint I've read about on the Plantronics customer service site is that after two years the battery will die a natural death due to old age. So do realize that this will not last forever. If your battery dies while the headset is under warranty, that's too soon and Plantronics will replace it. If your battery dies in less than 2 years but out of warranty, Plantronics is currently offering customers substantial discounts to buy replacements. (Save your receipt! Scan it if you're paperless. Or buy it from Amazon where they will keep a record for you.) I just bought my second one - the first lasted about 4 years for me with light use. I did read that some can get extra life out of their battery by putting the headset into a ziploc and then into the freezer overnight... so if you're here for a replacement, you might try that first and buy a little more time. I got a few extra months out of mine by discarding the (optional accessory) case I was using to charge it and by charging it directly through the OEM cord that came with it (so save that too!). WHAT YOU GET: Packaging is Easy to Open: there is a large sticker sealing the opening to the smallish box closed. That is easily cut with a pair of scissors. Then pull out the cardboard wings that are tucked into slots on each side of the front of the box and open it up. - Plantronics headset (battery is permanently installed) - Proprietary charging cord with separate wall plug - Two additional ear plugs -- larger and smaller than the one preinstalled on the headset - Foam covers for the ear plugs, to use or not as you prefer - Instruction Booklet - Instructions on Firmware Update - Safety Warnings - Some stuff in another language The cord is USB on the wall end and proprietary on the headset end (only matches the headset). That means that you can plug the cord into the computer to get firmware and software updates from Plantronics (which is the first thing that they recommend you do upon unpackaging your headset). The cord is short, just under 10" long (without the connectors). It's easy to change the ear plugs in and out so that you can try different sizes. You just press in and turn to the left. To insert one, you press in and turn to the right. (All of this is in the instruction book.) I found that I could use the small or the medium. I'm a 5'7" woman who weighs more than she should but you wouldn't hate sitting next to me on a plane. The ear plug sits loosely just inside your ear. You may not even feel it. It's definitely not a snug fit and you will hear surrounding sounds in both ears. What keeps the headset in place is the rest of it, not the ear plug. The boom mic is adjustable. I found it was directly pointed toward my mouth in it's lowest position. The device has a call button on the round part, from which the boom extends. That's for taking and ending calls if you don't want to use voice commands, which also work. On the underside of the boom is another button that mutes calls among other things. There is a volume rocker on the upper back part of the largest part of the device -- the part that goes behind the ear. And below that is the on/off switch. At the bottom of the back is the charging connector -- just a bit of recessed coppery looking metal. It reads "Plantronics" in very subtle small pale gray lettering at the bottom of the largest part of the device, on both sides. You can see where it is in the small shiny black part at the bottom of the picture. If you have the right expectations (it's not a magic genie... It may only last for two years... A very few of them will be defective and will require replacement...), you will be delighted with your purchase. You will not find better sound quality anywhere else. If you are used to music headphones, the looser, more open feel of the headset in your ear (or barely touching the front of your ear), might take some adjustment. I highly recommend this product and am confident that, if after reading this review you still want it, you will not be disappointed. UPDATE: One feature I have come to really appreciate is the voice commands. Some parts of my house get spotty cell phone reception. So, when I'm wearing the headset (during work hours), I always leave my phone in a "good reception area" of the house. If a call comes in, I don't have to rush back to the headset to pick it up, I just say, "answer" and the headset picks up the call. If the caller is in my address book, the phone will announce who's calling. If I'm silent or say "decline," the call is not picked up.

Best headsets I've found, but ...
Update (2023-07-02): I'm leaving my previous review intact below and adding a few thoughts. Most of it still applies to some extent. But ... this is the best headset I've ever had for my purpose, and I still can't find anything better. I don't talk on the phone any other way. Better? Noise cancellation and sound quality has been good on most of the 11 I've owned (yes, 11). I think some were counterfeits. Everyone can understand me on the other end, and many I've talked to had no clue I was going down the road (even with the windows down). The last one I bought was in December of 2022. I have two that still work fine. I don't know if the most recent failure is one of the more recent purchases, or a very old one. It literally wore out. The last two that failed lost their skins. I bought my first one in April of 2016. I only have one reason for not upgrading to the 5200. I despise micro-USB. I love the magnet connector for these. I can just reach up and pull it off the charge cable and put it on my ear while driving with minimal distraction. I carry two on the truck within reach so that when one battery gets low the other is right there. I can even snap the charger on the headset without having to see it. Try that with micro-USB. So, if you have time and patience to fiddle with micro-USB, by all means get the 5200. It's a better headset in every way, except for that. Poly seems to have migrated this headset over much better than they had at the beginning of 2023. There's a new app, and it works. I haven't tried to update the headset online with a PC since the end of 2022. If Poly would update this headset's internals, and leave the size, shape, and charger intact, I'd pay more for that one than another one of these. If I knew that they had, I'd be buying one from their website. There are numerous SKUs of this headset. There's no way for us mere mortals to know what the differences are, if any. I suspect that one or two of the FFP models were counterfeit, but I'm going to gamble again. The warranty will be out long before any problems become apparent. Then I'll buy another one ... or the Voyager Legend 2024. I am buying another one so I'll have two spares. Only 2 of the 11 are left. I started keeping one at home too. My wife is still using a 5200, but she has a couple of these ... somewhere. Previously (circa January 2023): I think I've purchased my last Legend, even though I haven't tested it yet. It's time to find something better, and that's going to be hard. My ear fits these too well. Be aware that this headset appears to no longer be fully supported online. Plantronics is now Poly. I just downloaded the latest version of Plantronics Hub from Poly's support site, which appears to be the remnants of Plantronics support site. When I run the Plantronics Hub and try to update the headset I get, "Plantronics Hub is unable to connect to the server." I suspect that the update server no longer exists, though I can't be sure. The most recent firmware version is v.109, and may be the last one. That doesn't take away from the quality and usefulness of the headset at all. It's still the best noise-cancelling headset I can comfortably wear. Driving a truck I wear one all the time. Having said all that, I have had issues with some of the ones I've purchased more recently, and my wife has too. Some of them don't cancel noise as well as others, though they all come up as the same product, and the same firmware version. Early on, they were all flawless. Lately, they're not. We've had a couple that failed before we managed to destroy them ourselves. And it's possible that more modern devices don't connect as well to the older version of bluetooth these support. This is a very good legacy product. Last note: My wife has one of the newer 5200s, and didn't like it nearly as well as these.

Overall happy with purchase
I purchased a cheaper plantronics bluetooth headset locally and was very disappointed with the sound quality. I decided to try this one, and I'm glad I did. The different charger is not a huge deal for me, though I do plan to get the hard case soon (as it doesn't come with any kind of case) and the hard case uses a micro USB charger like the rest of my electronics. Good things: I was really skeptical about the sensor working well to change between the headset and the phone during phone calls. It has surprised me in a good way. It changes almost flawlessly. (The almost is that I grabbed the headset with my fingers in a certain spot and it thought it was on my ear so transferred back. But I let go and it went right back to my phone.) I even turned the bluetooth on from my phone and turned the headset on in the middle of a call (was off when I received the call) and the call transferred to the headset without a problem when I put it on. The sound quality is really good. I wouldn't say awesome, but I have no real problems with it. The voice commands work really well. I do speak a bit louder, but I'm not sure that I have to? The other headset I tried I had to practically scream at. This one I don't have to. Even with background noise and wind about 20 mph this headset performs well. Others can hear me just fine. I haven't tried it on one of our 60mph wind days, but I'm not sure anything could drown that out! Not so good things: The headset size for the over-the-ear part is not adjustable, so if you have smaller ears it will not fit as well. This causes the headset to rest mostly on the part that goes into my ear. It doesn't fit so well. However, it usually stays on so it is something I'm willing to live with. I have thought to try to fill in the upper part of the gap, but I'm not sure if that would throw off the sensors. This headset is not so comfortable with glasses. I do wear contacts, but since I bought this to use mainly while driving, sunglasses do present a challenge. It does still work, but is a bit more to maneuver. The volume is a little off, or at least just to me. The volume for calls is loud for me. I can't seem to get it to go low enough. However when I go to use the voice dialing or listen to the headset info (such as battery) the volume is really low on that. So the phone calls are much louder than the headset's own audio. This is great if you are in a noisy environment and have to hear the call, but not so great when you want to lessen the strain on your ear in a quiet area. Overall I'm very happy with this headset and would purchase again. It does what I need it to do, and the battery does seem to last. I'm not sure it lasts the advertised 7 hours, but it does last a long time. I haven't timed it.

if you use your phone to communicate throughout your work day, especially while driving, this is the headset to purchase
AMAZING headset!! Yes, it is a little pricey but well worth the cost. I was a little reluctant to spend $80 on a headset, but I am very happy that I made the plunge. I am a field Communications Technician out in the field, driving my work truck all day. I use my headset 12 to 13 hours a day so I need a good quality, good hands-free operation, and most importantly, a comfortable head set with great battery life, and this head set does it all!! As long as I am not sweating allot (don't want to short out the head set) I am able to keep this head set on for my entire day (13 hours) without any discomfort. I actually forget that I am wearing it. I need to use 2 phones throughout my day, all day (one wok owned I Phone, and my personal Droid) and this headset stays connected to both phones flawlessly. Over the last 10 years I have had at least 12 different headsets, from nearly every manufacturer but I have never had a headset that did not have difficulties when using 2 phones at the same time. The sound quality is perfect for music, radio, and phone. I setup surround sound for my music and I am AMAZED!! It sounds like I have a speaker in each ear. I don't know how they do this, but I was amazed!! The hands free features work flawlessly. For the most part, I don't have to touch my phone at all. I hit the call button on the boom, say, "Call Dispatch", the headset replies "Call Dispatch", I say yes, and the phone calls dispatch. If I get a call while I am driving, the phone rings and I can say "answer" or "ignore". The head set has a separate volume button which may seem unimportant, but it's not. It is very important when driving a company vehicle all day. There is no fumbling around trying to lower or increase volume while driving. I just picked up my headset to check the status... I had the headset on from 7:30 AM till 7:00PM yesterday, I used it all day to keep in touch with my companies dispatch and to pre-call customers. I left the headset on all night and right now, 20 hours from last using it and there is 4 hours of talk-time left!!! Keep in mind, I listen to my favorite radio station through my Droid phone during the day too. When a call comes through, or I make a call, the radio automatically lowers the volume. When I am done with the call my talk radio volume comes back to where I had it set previously. Granted, spending $80 on an item that is easily lost or broken is a difficult decision for the average worker-bee. But, if you use your phone to communicate throughout your work day, especially while driving, this is the headset to purchase. So far, I have not found one little negative feature.

Great headset. I include performance parameters in the review.
I will say here that (1) the voyager legend is an excellent piece of hardware and (2) I find there might be few improvements in software. -I use this while riding on a bicycle. I begin to have difficulty hearing the other end - whether its a person or just the music on my phone - when I reach 20 mph on days with relatively still wind. I start to hear wind over the music at 15 mph. By the time I can't hear the person on the other end, I am going 30 mph with my face straight forward. -I've been in a steady down-pour for roughly and hour, such to the point that my clothing and hair were soaked. The Voyager Legend did not cease to function, and its performance did not decrease. If you look it up on the vendor's website, they'll say that the legend has a p2 protection system, or a nano-coating of water repellent (http://www.plantronics.com/us/product/voyager-legend#overview). It's under the heading of "moisture protection." Now, into the software: -I have not noticed an effective transfer from the phone to the legend when playing music. If you're expecting it to pause music should you only remove it from your ear, you'll sometimes be disappointed. Their claims as to how it works for an incoming phone call, however, are on point - if you pick up the Legend while your phone is ringing and put it on your ear, it picks up. -The voice command feature is not very good, although that might well be the fault of my particular phone and not the headset's software. My particular complaint is telling the phone to call "such and such" is often misinterpreted as a completely different number. -My headset arrived (I bought it used) arrived and did not have all the voice commands that are in the manual. Also, since I bought it used, I didn't get the features that come with it new. I did not get the charging case or the computer usb for pairing to the headset. I received only the headset and the charging cord. **UPDATE** I purchased this in June 2015; it is now January 2016. It has been 7 months. The headset still functions well. It did glitch in such a way that the other party could not understand me, and sometimes I can't understand them. This happened fewer than 10 times, and most of the time it functions perfectly. Talk time has not degraded noticeably since its purchase; there is no charge port damage due to the magnetic charging clip. At some point I managed to get an air bubble underneath the rubberish skin that has yet to go away, but it doesn't affect anything and the water resistant seal is still operational. Sound quality, for the most part, is excellent, although I have a habit of paying less attention to my enunciation when I'm using the bluetooth. I do not use the headset with great frequency now, although I used to use it a lot to listen to music.

Bluetooth mouthpiece defective part
Product works well, but it starts to come apart at the tip of the mouth piece, it’s started separating after about a month, had to put a drop of super glue on the tip. So far so good. Bought February,2 2026 Started coming apart April,4 2026 Would be five stars if it wasn’t for the defective part.

Very disappointed
I absolutely loved it ,everything was great ,and it had that last number call back that I hadn't had in years and instead of playing my loud Dixie ringtone in my ear when I received a call it would say answer or ignore .I had it for two days and I was talking to a friend of mine for 30 minutes and after we hung up I called my supervisor and it lost connection .I tried numerous times to reconnect it but to no avail .I made my phone forget it and tried to repair it but now it was really lost .I even did a hard reset on my phone but still won't connect .I had a old Bluetooth and it paired no problem ,I even made my phone forget it and it reconnected .Very disappointed in legend .I had a poly 50 legend before this and I had to talk really loud when I called someone or they called me because it would cancel my voice . Why did Plantronics quit making the best Bluetooth of all times and go to these stupid big ones that won't stay in your ear .I have bull dogged calves before with old ones and they never fell out of my ear . the other thing I absolutely loved on the legend compared to the 50 was that it stayed in my ear better ,not great but better than the 50. I called Amazon and they are sending me a replacement and hopefully maybe I just got a bad one .if the replacement last longer than two days it will be better .
