I used to buy something like this when I was a kid, at a museum gift shop that was a couple of blocks from my house. I loved the microscope. A couple of weeks ago, my 11 year old saw one in another museum shop, but it was $17, so I convinced him to wait until we got home and I could pick up one here. He is in love with this thing, and he has insisted on taking it with him everywhere he goes since he got it. For an adult, the telescope is kind of cheesy, but the microscope is still kind of neat. For a kid, it's the coolest thing ever. The boy has already asked me to order another one, so he has a spare when he looses or breaks this one.

Bleh. Not what I hoped they'd be, based on my memories of the one I had as a kid. Objects are barely visible through the telescope, and the microscope is terrible. I would return but I missed the deadline, grrrrrrrrrr.

Hazy optics. Just fine for kids. Makes stuff look bigger. 'nuff said.

Not quite the quality of the "KGB pocket spy telescope" I bought from Sportsman's Guide as a kid, but almost. Good deal for the money, kids will LOVE it, but actually does magnify images with some clarity. The 30x microscope function is REALLY cool! Again, kids will love it, great for STEM encouragement in young people, use in birdwatching, environmental studies, personal security, etc.

My son loves this. He can see a far distance, farther than expected.

This product is misleading, especially if you are looking for a less expensive version of something nice you saw in a toy store. It does magnify things somewhat..... so still good as a toy for children. But I was under the impression that it is also a telescope. It's not. It's a telescoping (aka. folding) microscope. Don't think you can see things like a pirate with this! It is only for microscope use. It is also small enough that it is difficult to look through. I haven't given it to my son yet, but I wonder if he will find the small peephole a deterrent to playing with it at all. Might return it.

The quality of this is absolutely awful. Do not waste your time or money.

If you are nostalgic and remembering a toy you had as a child that looked like this - you are in luck! If you are looking for a professional grade instrument of any sort - look elsewhere.
