Review: Used as Emergency Switchover for 12V Diesel Heater - Purchased in Jan 2022, it has worked well for 3+ years and 3 cold weather seasons as the emergency transfer switch between the 12V Meanwell power supply and the deep cycle battery for my 5kW diesel heater. I have a diesel heater in a permanent installation with double insulated 4" metal thru-the-wall exhaust and a 120V power supply. Those who are familiar with the Epersbacher / Webasto parking heaters and their Chinese counterparts understand that a reliable 12VDC connection is an absolute necessity. The warning to folks who connect their heaters to 120VAC / 12VDC power packs or transformers is that complete and catastrophic self-destructive meltdown will occur if there is a power failure and the blower fails to receive the 12VDC while the heater is operating. AS such a 12VDC deep cycle battery and a trickle charger are the standard method for ensuring that the heater is 'blackout proof'. However... I wanted my unit (which runs non-stop 24/7 for up to 4-5 months every year!) to be default powered by my 120VDC and not primarily the battery. To handle the glowplug, the 120VAC to 12VDC transformer needed to be around 12a peak, so I got a Meanwell LRS200-12 that produces 17amps. My deep cycle battery is a Series 27DC 800 / 80. Lossless switching in case the 120VAC fails is absolute necessity as the electronic control resets to the default OFF/Display mode if there is even a split-second loss of 12VDC to the heater. Since this turns everything back to pre-startup condition, and require manually restarting the system, the vitally important blower shuts off as well, so 12V power gaps are a real problem. This solar switch comes equipped to handle an instantaneous transition between completely independent 12VDC sources with no gap or loss at up to 30amps -while not drawing off input power to support its function. As a solar switch it is designed to be connected to a battery system that its MOSFET circuitry will switch over to when the solar supply drops out and recharge the storage batteries while solar is available. In my case, the Meanwell 120VAC transformer simply took the place of the INPUT source that would have been the solar cells' power. A nice feature is that the PowerPath F106 sends power back to the battery from the Meanwell to keep the deep cycle properly tended. There are red and yellow LED indicators to help monitor condition. During seasonal operation, when the battery is at peak charge, the PP F106 yellow LED begins to flicker to indicate the pulse charging. This is usually when I will shut the 120VAC supply OFF for about 12hrs and let the heater run purely off the deep cycle connected through the transfer switch. When the voltage monitor on the heater control indicates a drop to about 10VDC at the heater, I turn the power supply back on and observe the immediate increase in voltage at the heater. The 120VAC supply then once again resumes the default duty. The unit was intuitive to wire and came with nice HD connectors. As with all electronics, there is no way to know if/when something might fail, but so far it has been 100% reliable and proved itself during many power flickers and power outages while in service over the last 3 years / seasons. The hands-off convenience of having this automatic switching / charging transfer switch would make buying a second one well worth it.
Review: Greatly simplifies power wiring - Works perfectly. Installed on in my trailer and one in a portable HF transmitter box. You have a load output, battery input, and power input. It automatically selects the power input to the load if it is available and supplied charge current to the battery connector. When the power input fails, it immediately switches to the battery input. In my installation, the battery is on an AC charger so the charge current is not needed. The equipment does not appear to "see" the switch happen. I have a DC power supply connected to the main input of this unit. If the AC goes off, the unit switches to battery backup, when power is restored, the unit switches back to the input. The wiring was greatly simplified vs. using a switch and there is no interruption of service.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the maximum input voltage and amperage from the power supply?**
A: This device is designed for 12V systems by the way it looks and behaves, which the maximum system voltage is probably 16V. There is no maximum current limit on the input, it’s capable of transferring up to 25-30A however between the input, battery, and output terminals. So I guess that would be the current limit. There’s no risk in hooking up a power supply that puts out 100A onto it as long as you don’t try to pull that much current through it

**Q: Why don't the accessory power pole housings fit the device?**
A: Not sure what you mean. My power poles fits just fine on the device

**Q: The power pole plugs that came with this do not fit the device. Why not? Too cheap?**
A: I may not know the answer, but there are different size power poles for different power needs. This could be the issue.

**Q: Can you use something like a 12V NoCo charger as the power supply?**
A: Maybe. Bad things might happen if the device being powered draws more current than the NoCo charger can supply. Then the PWRpath device might rapidly switch between the charger and the battery because it's not made to share power between the two. It's intended to be either/or. Run from the power supply all the time except when the AC power goes out.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So far so good
*by N***E on May 24, 2023*

So far so good! A little about my setup. The power source is an MFJ 30AMP power supply with variable voltage. The battery is a 12V Bioenno battery, 40AH. I've been testing this for a few days and it does charge the battery no problem. Of note, I had to turn up the voltage on my PS up to 14.8 to get it to charge the battery properly. After that adjustment, no issues. It fully charged the battery and the charger stopped. I did a test while my two ham radios (FT710 & 2730A) were on. I turned off the PS and the battery kicked in to power the radios with zero problems. So it seems so far this does what it's supposed to do. At this point, I would recommend this. If anything changes, I will update my review.
