The case meets the quality and durability I expect from Pelican. It's not quite as sturdy as a normal Pelican case. There is some additional give and flex in the lid, especially in the center. However, this is expected given the significant reduction in weight (around 10 lbs.). This weight reduction was key for me as I have some heavy equipment I need to take on trips. I was able to pack my equipment into a single case and remain below airline weight limits. Before, I needed two normal Pelican cases in order to comply. So, I am very pleased with my purchase. I was looking for a strong and durable suitcase and boy am I happy with this one. It's waterproof which some of the knockoffs are only water resistant....big difference. The capacity is perfect for enough clothes and supplies for a two week trip. All of the latching mechanisms are great and really hold well. Negative pressure valve built-in too, so these engineers were really thinking hard on this one. Warranty on the whole thing for life too so I'm a huge fan now. Plus, it has that tactical feel and appearance which doesn't hurt. No need to tie a red string on the handle either....I'm the only one with this handsome case at the baggage claim. Yes there are about 4 layers or so of the foam. It works pretty well actually. **Q: Pelican has a life time warranty. Will that still apply if I buy the product from here?** A: I was able to get a warranty repair for a Pelican Case at work without any receipt and no idea where or when it was originally purchased. I’m a military contractor and I’ve been on 10 tours over seas in the roughest parts of the world and this case has protected everything I send in it.
